Looking for info on putting a transmission from a 4x4 f250 into a e250. Long term 4x4 conversion.
2003 e250 with trans issues, 2000 f250 4x4, same motor. Will it bolt up? wire up? Haven't found info on changing the entire transmission and tranfer case, only installing the transfer case.
I have a few thoughts about this based on nothing more than what I've read online about this sort of compatibility----can't add anything of value to this question-------we'll maybe wait for Mr Mark Kovolsky to weight in......
Re: the long-term 4x4 conversion---is that project currently in-process or simply anticipated? Either way I have a site that might be helpful, where others have done or are doing this to the E-Series vans.

It is anticipated. I haven't bought the van yet, but its cheap (because of the trans issues) and in decent shape. If I can start the conversion right out of the gate and pick away at it as time allows.
Depending on the year of your van, this fellow in North Carolina has kits that use stock F-350 components grafted into your E-250/350 van. Appears he really has it figured out, and you can go from mild to wild, caution, it's not cheap to do it properly. (just re-read JWA's response, hope this post isn't tromping around where we shouldn't go...) 4x4 Van Conversion kits
One of the favorites is to do the suspension conversion first, then add the 4wd later, spreading out the cost. You'll end up with a 4WD conversion that has factory parts that can be serviced through any shop with Ford experience in the future.
You will have to shorten the gas tank to make room for the transfer case. U-Joint sell a template to cut and an end to be welded. I've been dreaming on that conversion for long time (Hard to justify I need it, but I do want it)
