Only 32Gb. Your going to be out of space by the end of the first 24 Hrs.

BTW I think the beacon might have better emergency features than a phone.
I am thinking that you could get one that has a G-sensor that will trigger in a fall.
That would be good in the out back on a bike if you hit your head.

Not a bad Idea I know I can get approval from the CFO (wife) for that. I have split 2 reg bike helmets and cracked 1 full face DOT helmet (that one took me out for a month... I'm getting old). Shes always looking at more safety gear for me and my recklessness. I always tell her how am I supposed to know where my limits are if I dont go past them ?

I'll 2nd (or 3rd?) The Emergency Beacon. I bought a Spot unit for my Wife as she often rides alone and trails are all over the place, so she makes different loops. We had a Veterinarian friend that came off her horse down in one of the canyon trails, not all that far out -- she broke her pelvis and it took searchers 16 hours to find her.

That was when we bought the Spot, along with a Garmin GPS she uses on every ride, along with her Cell Phone, along with a .44 Taurus Titanium and a spare full speed-loader -- she's an excellent shot with either hand, so one wouldn't want to be on the other end of that, and expect to live

Prepare for the worst and hope it never happens, you never know who or what you'll run into, or trouble that might beset you...

Sounds like a fun trip

So true. The cute little furry things have BIG and very friendly MOMAS
if you near by. Or snakes.

Clayton-

I'm in the process of upgrading my F-350 into an expedition rig also.

What are you doing about suspension and tires?
Any thought of installing some lockers, particularly in the rear?

I'm thinking of upgrading my front suspension to a leveling kit from Carli which will give me more travel. I'm also thinking of getting slightly wider tires (BF Goodridge KO2).

Lift -
I went with a 2.5 level kit, sorta pieced it together over time as finances allowed. I have leaf springs in front, so that will be different. but I did go with a spring replacement mainly because I dont like spacers or blocks, but mine were wore out too. that 2.5" turned into 4" - still level just old springs were weakened with time.

went with an adjustable track bar in case I decide to with more lift in the future.

Shocks -
I went with Rancho RS 9000 - still playing with the adjustments to figure out which setting is right for what.

Tires -
I'm trying out Toyo Open Country 305/70/16 (33x12) Had BFG's for a long time with many vehicles felt I needed to try more options. I like the tread pattern - on road they are very good, quiet enough. Did very well in the rain, and so far worked pretty good in moderate mud. I haven't had the chance to try out in sand but hard trails they did better then the BFG's. I installed the tires before the level kit I think I should have gone with 315/75/16 (35x12). I have read may people with your front end (coils) saying they fit well with level kits, just not sire about mine.

Lockers -
I have Posi F&R stock, so far that has served me very well. with the $1k per Diff price tag on air lockers it will be some time before I get them. But feel that as I get out more that may move up the priority list.

More travel -
For more travel / articulation set up some swaybar disconnects
Check this thread out - just found it today and will be the route I am going to go with. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...l#post15231864
didn't think they made that much of a difference until I disconnected them during the install of my level kit it was 3-4" difference.

there are a few other things that I plan on doing to make it more expedition ready.

1st will be to remove the side steps and replace them with something that attaches to frame and sits higher up, basically rock rails but functional as steps. If I have to make it I will.

Also plan on on-board air with at least one chuck per side. Ideally 1 per tire so I can have a short hose.

Putting a receiver in the front so I can have a winch in the tool box I can use either front or rear. Truck is too long as it is, dont need to make it worse by having a winch F&R permanently there.

Titan tank and or 30-50 gal auxiliary tank. Been thinking about a custom one - more on that when if I start to make it.

Spare tire holding tail gate - 2 is better then one.

Some skid plates for trans and in front where all the coolers are.

lots of other Ideas too but those are on the top of my list.

A pocket full of cash and a tow strap should do it.

Take pics and post here if you use the strap to pull a Chevy or Dodge.

Deny you went off-roading if the opposite happens, and please don't post any pics.

Have fun and enjoy!

Having pulled my own Chevy out with my own Ford, is just One of the reasons I wouldn't consider owning another one of their trucks...

My Dodges just spent too much time in the shop... But still I own a Rubi, just know that it is one that Benz had their influence on. f*** Chrysler and what they could have but didn't do for the Jeep folk... Let's see what Fiat does...

In the end, it's all good...

Sorta
I eventually intend on long 7+ day expeditions. Even of its just along short 100 mile trails, hiking from my campsites to other remote spots. I just love exploring and going to places few if not zero people have been.

I am also setting up things as I find a need for them. The "rock sliders" for example - a lot of trails are jeep orientated so there are some tight turns that go around rocks or burms. I have bent and straightened out my stock troop steps several times. The extra fuel need is more for highway use, I drive a lot and less i need to stop the better, but could be helpful in those long offroad tripa

I am planning on our truck camper to be self sufficient for about 2 weeks if everything goes as planned ( you know how that can turn out!!) any place from Baja to the Canol Rd in the Yukon to the outer reaches of Newfoundland!!

I don't plan on any rock crawling so hopefully I'm not going to bash any rocks. However I do want to get rid of the factory bars as they stick down too much.
A friend has this set up on his and it seems to work well..
AMP Research Power Step Ford F-250/F-350 2008-2010 (Plug & Play Installation)

I have the long bed so I already have a great fuel tank and can go over 600 highway miles on a tank. Of course it will be considerably less in 4 WD on a trail but I have yet to have any issues.
