Prep work for long off-road expedition ... input?
Ideally I would love to be set up with extra parts like Anthony (Super Duty Service) was when he was long hauling, but that's not yet a reality. Will look for that video later.
Its not until Dec but I like to have a contingency plan for my contingency plans.
The one thing I was thinking that will be hard to deal with is the fan clutch. It can definitely go out on whim, but replacing it my not be possible. So I was thinking can I JB weld it to operate all the time? I dont care if I have to replace the pump if I do that. Beats being towed out 50 miles to a highway then getting a hold of tow truck to take me to a shop (will have some pre selected)

Not sure what year truck you have I don't see sign. On the phone. If 05+ change the stc fitting if it hasn't been done. A few gallons of anti freeze. Anti gel fuel additive. Extra fuel if you are going way out. Check the spare tire over and that the winch that lowers it actually moves. Although they should not just fail a ficm or at least a replacement power board for one.

Thanks guys
I always carry jumper cables, small air compressor, patch kit and all the specialty tools I have purchased specifically for the truck, and a full size spare of the same size tire I have.
An extra spare and jump box is in order for sure. All my wrenches and sockets, plus my normal tools I carry for work will be going with for sure.
If I get some extra work in, or mysterious loot before then I plan on putting an onboard air system in with a 2 or 5 gal tank, with chucks near each wheel. Have the tanks just not a good enough compressor. been mocking up some brackets to mount it in the pass side front under the bed, lots of room in there.
I have this week off I think I will make a list of what I always carry, a 2nd need to carry (buy 1st), and a 3rd off-road list (I can take out all my hitches and harness')
this is probably going to be 1st on the list

Back to the clutch fan question. JB weld won't work. The center
section that houses the clutch does not rotate. It's attached to
the stator assembly. You would have to pull it apart before you
get to the clutch to glue it. If you worried about it maybe going
back to the mechanical type they have in the 7.3 might be the trick.
But I am not sure do to the fact that I have only seen it talked about
in the forums.
Maybe someone has an old one that they would take apart and
post the photos of it. Then you might have an idea on an out in
the dirt quick and dirty fix.
One tool to think of would be a sat phone or a personal locator beacon.
Here is a how to pick one from REI

Then this place does rental

Would be really good if you get into a bad pickle.

I know you will think I am crazy since you will be in the desert but a couple of blankets; several gals of drinking water and a couple of days worth of emergency rations. Fruit/nut bars etc. It can get near freezeing at night. It is a long way from anywheres in some places.
hell in summer it can get cold at night in the desert.
At all times I have a case of water and 3 days of rations for me, my fiance and my dogs (removing that tray behind the seat opens up a lot of room) also two blankets, change of clothes, shoes. fire extinguisher, a serious 1st aid kit, plus a crappy one I let people pilfer as needed (distracts from the "real" one).
On this 4 day 150+ mile venture I plan on about 20+ gals of water. plus a cooler of gator aids.

FICM powerboard- great Idea
Always have 4 gals antifreeze 2 gals oil and 2q trans.

You never know when the road will become impassable and you may at
that point want/need some help. Even if it's only a food and water drop.
Be sure to take us photos and post them for everyone to drool over.
