Any chance of Ford finally making an off road package to compete with the Power Wagon? I read a magazine article many years back that showed a prototype aimed at the PW. Nothing ever came to market though.
I love the PW, badass truck. But it has 1/2 ton capabilities..... under 1,500# payload and 10,800# towing. 2015 might be a tad higher.
PW sales are tiny. I can go months without seeing one. I don't think Ford wants to invest in this market when it has the Raptor.
Doesn't take much to make a SD have PW options. Front locker, integrated winch and auto sway bar disconnects. The front locker would be cool from the factory.
I have always wondered about the market for the PW. I guess it's for guys who want an "off road package" and a diesel. That makes no sense to me, but hey, it's their money.
I don't see any reason for Ford to offer anything similar.
PW has been a gasser only. Since 2014 it has the 6.4L.
If they added the diesel, it would be a $65+ truck and really have crappy towing capabilities. A lot of PW guys complain about not offering the Cummins.

Exactly. The only way you can get a locker in a RAM is the PW. Otherwise, you are limited to a crappy limited slip (which despite ordering you might not get anyway). The Super Duty can be had with a nice selectable locker, and I'd like to know how much more articulation can be had on a PW with the swaybars unlocked vs. a stock Super Duty. Keep in mind, many Super Dutys don't even have a rear sway bar. Yes, the hidden winch is nice...but also harder to fix snagged or jammed which cable. Anyone who has used a winch knows this can be hard enough to solve with a front bumper mounted winch...one behind a slot in a bumper can be almost impossible if you wind it up wrong or get a kink.
In my opinion, mount a winch on the front of the SD, add a front selectable locker, and add more aggressive tires...instant viable PW competitor and you can have the 6.7L if you like. ARB would be happy to set you up with the winch & locker.
Not sure any manufacturer can sell a winch that's in front of the bumper because it likely wouldn't pass crash testing and pedestrian safety legislation.
Probably why Ram puts it behind the bumper.
