Are you planning on doing this for hire, as in "professionally", or are you only going to be hauling your own stuff around? And what, *exactly* are you planning on hauling?

I would get a gas burner for heavy traffic areas. The cost of diesel fuel in Ca. is ridiculous and in stop and go traffic you will not get a return on the higher cost of a diesel. California makes it tough on start up towing companies getting on police rotation. Do your homework.

I bought one because I was driving a V10 X, and while it could do the job, it wasn't easy for it. And that's after putting 4.30 gears in it. Coming back from the beach one time, I asked the wife if she felt comfortable towing the camper in a 15 y/o vehicle with 218,000 miles on it. No, we agreed, and the X gave us Zero problems. I borrowed a 250 with the 6.2 and test pulled my camper and it was no better than the X. Found the King Ranch in my siggy with 42,000 miles on it and factory warranty for 3 more years. Paid cash (I'm completely debt free) and haven't looked back. The difference is night and day. Cruising down the road at 65 with the cruise on and locked in 6th is a completely different experience from the old X. What's piece of mind worth? Don't get me wrong, I loved the X, don't think there was a dry eye in the family when that rolled down the road. It was the absolute best vehicle choice for that time in life.
This all said, I would definitely consider the new 7.3 if it passes the pull test.
