I'm having a nightmare of a time lining up my doors. The passenger door closed mostly fine but I wanted to adjust it slightly to close a little better and made it way worse. Any tips on lining the doors up?
Driver side was already messed up. For some reason it doesn't close at all. Its almost as if something is jammed into the hinges not letting it close. It stays open about 6 inches all the time. I don't see anything interfering so it has me baffled. Any idea what I should be looking for?
Without pics or being there to look at it I'm going to guess the driver side door has been hyper-extended and either bent the door, hinges, or cab where the hinges bolt on or any combination of all three
If you have installed new rubber weatherstrip that could be part of the problem. Doors usually need to be adjusted to compensate for the thicker rubber.
This takes alot of patience. I got to a point, I was ready to accept some non-perfect gaps just to get it to shut good again. It shuts great now, I really want to "tweak it" just a little to get the gaps a little closer, but I am never going to win in a show with this truck, so I decided I am going to leave good enough alone!
I am welding a cross bracing in mine before sending to blasting and cutting any pieces out. An X behind door in the back of cab then a X from left rear top to right front bottom and right rear top to left bottom. I am hoping this keeps my alignment while cutting floor and replacing metal,
I really don't know on a '53, but from the description it sounds like one or both of the hinges are hitting built-in stops, like to prevent OPENING too far?
