Alignment of 48 ford doors

Hi all this is my first post so i hope all goes well! I recently bought a 48 F-6 Grain truck, will post pic. when i get a camera! The Driver side door is about 3/8" below the body line at the back of the cab. How do i adjust the bottom hinge to pick up the door? If there is a way i cant see it!!

Welcome to the board!!! I'm sure that someone will come along shortly and give you the help you need, I don't have alot of experience with these doors (yet)

The door is probably sagging due to the hinge pins being worn out. You might be able to adjust it alittle bit though. I think that if you Loosen those screws you can have some adjustment. I think the screws go into a flooting carrier.
I just removed the doors from a 49 parts truck this weekend, you will probably need and impact driver to loosen the screws. I was only able to remove the screws from one door and had to drill the screws from the other door, which was no problem as this is a parts truck.

Good luck to you. When you get a chance post some pics for us to look at, we love to see other peoples toys

There isn't much adjustment to these doors. A little out and in and less up and down. The doors in my otherwise perfect cab that I got off of a '50 fire truck with 3000 miles hung low in the back and hit the door frame. The hinges were fine. I decided the door openings were out of square so I used a port-a-power (a large hydraulic spreading tool) to jack the door openings out. On both doors openings I placed the port-a-power in the lower front corner and diagonally to the upper rear corner and jacked a little at a time testing the door fit until I got it to where is should have been. I as far as I know the doors were like this from the factory and the fire department used it like that for over forty years.

Bob,

Thanks for the info, makes alot of sense. After my last post I got to thinking how to raise the rear of the door with the amount of adjustment in the hinges........short of bending the hinges I don't think you can do it.

Thats a really neat idea about the porta-power. My curretn doors hang low, but then again the pics are worn too. It will be at least a year until i really have to mess with the doors.

well if the door frame measures out square, what if i removed the bottom hinge and welded some shims behind it to pick up the door? Think that might work?

By welding shims to the lower hinge you will change the gap on the front of the door . It will widen the gap at the bottom of the door in front and close the gap at the lower part of door in the rear. If you must shim I would not weld them in place until you test fit everything.

One more trick is to put a 2X4 or smaller piece of wood in the hinge and close the door as much as possible. Again, do a little at a time. This will bend the hinge and twist the post a little and bring the door rearward. If it needs to go up in the back do this adjustment to the bottom hinge, if the door needs to come down in the back do it to the top hinge. Just remember to do it a little at a time, it's kind of hard to reverse what you do.

I remember reading somewhere (I think in the repair manual for these trucks) on how to adjust the door gaps. The wood method as mentioned above was suggested and described. Too bad all of my literature is packed up so I can't look for the article.

Ilya,

I only read the manual if I really screw up. I guess I could save myself a lot frustration if I would think of looking there first.
