down here in southern louisiana, most of the roads are built on reclaimed(filled in)swampland.therefore all of the roads sink and are extremely rough.after only a few short months driving on the roads here,my doors have started to rattle.the drivers door will stop rattleing,if i push out on it with my elbow while driving.ihow can i tighten the doors to stop the rattle?i realise that they will probably be harder to shut, but now they shut so effortlessly that i don`t think it will cause a problem.thanks for the help..................wayne
What do your weatherstrips look like? You can adjust the latch in further, but then the door may look like it is "in too far", and may start to hit metal to metal somewhere, which will create a gawdawful racket.
New weatherstrips are not without their problems as well. Buy the best ones, which generally are reported to be those from Dennis Carpenter. I got cheaper ones that are so stiff that the doors still don't close very well, and I have to slam them so hard I worry that the glass is going to bust sometime.
all of my weatherstrips look allright to me.do i adjust the part on the door or on the cab?my door does seem to be out a little bit anyway,so it will probably look better anyway
The door alignment is done at the hinges. If door looks aligned i would not tamper with them.
Not an authority on subject, but had to adjust latch after replacing wheatherstrip. There is an adjustment on the door lock mechansim. It is located on the cab, not the door. Suggest you first look to see if the door latch is working properly. May want to lubricate and test. There a 3 screws on the latch. You should trace, or mark its current location. The latch can move up, down, and sideways. Loosening top and shifting bottom can correct if door stricks low, vise-versa if secure bottom and shift top. Point being, if latch appears to be striking lock properly then sounds like if shift mechanism toward seat slightly may correct problem. Suggest only loosen enough where it will move under pressure. Make adjustment in small increments. Tighten screws between test. In addition, you do not want to try and solve an alignment problem using the door latch mechanism.
Anyhow, had an urge to add my $.02.
good luck,
dave
