Well that battery wasn't taking enough charge to even think about turning the motor over. So I yanked the battery out of the comet which has backward terminals compared to what the X takes. Turned the motor over for awhile, then after waiting turned it over some more and saw oil pressure come up. Checked the shrader on the fuel rail and nothing. Grab the "black label" 409 bottle which happens to have gas in it, squirt some in the intake and vroom! Open manifold V10! Then it died...
No fuel pressure, can't hear the pump but gauge shows 3/4 tank of gas enough to muffle pump sound? Any other known to cause the fuel pump to not work in these V10's?
I have to run out and check the inertia switch yet (should have thought of it right away). But I believe out of all the years that has only been the culprit like 1 time. The X has been sitting for awhile, maybe the pump just froze up?
I couldn't take it. Just now I ran out to the shop to check the inertia switch. Felt as though it was down and not tripped. Since I was at it I rearranged the 4 relays on the drivers side engine bay in the "two packs".
I turned down the radio in the shop, turned the key, and whats that noise? Gotta cycle the kay again to hear it better. Why that there noise be a fuel pump!!! I cycled the key about 5 more times till it sounded like it had pressure on it (bled out all the air). Crank the engine and VROOOM! Open manifold V10 running on its own!
Great work Andy, put some ear plugs on the wife and get ir out there driving around the yard! Take pics now that it's ready, you can start waxing tomorrow.
Am I correct that it has been just a little over a month since you got the EX with a disassembled engine that was in boxes full of unmarked parts? And now now it has an working assembled engine and I assume replacement transmission installed? AND you appear to have a life other than working on the EX? Im impressed!
I did a in frame Engine overhaul on one of my tractors last summer and while it only really took a week of wrenching I spent several more chasing parts and getting heads and such machined to finish it. A John Deere 466 diesel isn't an exact comparison to a V10, with the wet sleeves and there head stand out on the JD which I spent way more time than I should have along with the rest of the motor checking tolerances the V10 has more than enough parts to assemble especially if they weren't labeled for placement. And that was my full time job when there was parts available to work with.
haha, thanks guys! Michael, I really appreciate the subscription gesture! There sure are some nice folks here!
Has it been a month already Twigs? That time flies! Yeah all my own stuff I have to do in my own time like this X. In fact I have a car coming today for exhaust so that means I have to get the X running and moving enough to back it out of the shop so I will be able to get the car in. No trans cooler yet so I just looped the lines at the radiator for now, not going on any trips soon so it should be fine. I also didn't want to stick the condenser or front end on till I get the trans cooler.
So I guess today I will put another 6 quarts of trans fluid in and see if I can get Chitty to move and some coolant in to see how many leaks I have. lol Still waiting for the PO to find the Y-pipe, radiator fan, and trans dip stick tube so I can't go for any sort of road drive yet. I will try and get a video today.
Oh yeah, I have two left over bolts and one left over nut. The nut is a 10mm, one bolt is a 10mm (which looks like an odd ball and may have nothing to do with the X) and one other short 13mm bolt. I did use a bolt or two out of my own stash for a couple things so these may be the ones I couldn't find when I needed them.
All the fasteners for the grill, support, and whatnot are in a separate container in the back of the X. Can't wait to get at those, that will mean it is button up time!

On its way. You should have it by Monday
Bolts? I just found an extra one on my vent intake. Not sure how long it's been there, LOL.
