We made it in late last night and boy do I have some stories.... Pretty sad really I will get into details later tonight once I get home.. I need to know how to post pictures?
Well here you go guys.. My Bride and I arrived in Vegas Friday and went Saturday to pick up the Ex. We went to the dealer and visual inspected the truck there were minor things that was not disclosed but nothing major the dealer advised also that he changed the tires for "better newer ones"?? really hmm??? I looked at them and yes they had better tread but I never looked at them closely. Well a long story short we did not make it but 80 miles out of town and had a left rear blow out my wife was driving and we nearly rolled the Excursion. After many choice words and alot of praying I calmed down changed the tire and I proceeded to take over driving running 50 with the flashers and 30 miles later the right rear tire blew. We were stuck on the side of 93 50 miles west of Kingman ,AZ for 5 hours and I finally found Best Tire in Kingman. " AAA was absolutley no help we waited 4 hours with no a show. Anyway The Best Tire Store in Kingman,AZ are Awsome the shop normally closed at 6 on Saturday well We was at their shop till 9:30 they got us up and running after keeping their staff after hours for us. We made it home over 2 day and 2052 miles. The truck has sustained $3700 of damage from the blow out per the estimate I got today from the bodyshop and 1300 worth of tires. I have contacted the Dealer several times with no resolved. I found out from the Tire company the tires that dealer put on was manufactured 49 week 2001. They had good tread but was severly dry rotted. I told him I agreed to purchased the truck with the orignal tires that pre inspection verified and I never authorized any additional work or tire to be changed. So I am now trying to figure out a avenue to pursue. Now the good stuff We are safe at home the truck did flawlessy running 80-85 mph after putting new tires on all 4 corners of course we avg 19.3 mpg running 80-85 and only spent $275.00 in fuel.. Very pleased with performace and over all drivability of the truck.. now I got a question there were times the Coolant temp and eot were more than 15 degrees apart. I am concern that the truck might not have a thermostat in it or it is a low temp maybe cause it has been in AZ its whole life? With temps outside @ 54 degrees the coolant temp was 145 eot was 176.. during the hottest part of the it was withing 8 - 10 degress, I will post pics tomorrow of tires and truck... Thanks again for everyones help!!!
Your thermostat is stuck open. One of the 6.0s we test drive had the same problem. You can't measure your oil cooler health until your ect hits 192. It's a easy fix $30 part and 1hrs time.
As I always recommend, get an aftermarket coolant bottle cap ( I have a Stant). It is only $5 from a local auto parts store. My factory cap would only hold about 9 psi, when it is supposed to hold about 16-18psi.
After that get a coolant filter (I have Sinister).
I'm sure glad you guys were not hurt in all this! I'm sorry to hear you've bent your new truck tho. That dealer absolutely needs some pain to come his way. At a minimum I'd make sure everyone else on the web knows what they did and to steer clear of them. They absolutely knew what they were doing. I hope you can get this worked out! Keep us posted and I'll go trim the long gray beard I'm growing waiting for you to post pictures!
If you still get no were with the dealer directly, I'd try to put some pressure on them through FORD Corp. This seems like a slam dunk for a Las Vegas att.
Glad you both made it home safe, that dealer has alot of explaining to do...
Make sure and get yourself a coolant filter, one designed along the lines of the Diesel Site filter. Kits like the Sinister kit with compressed fitting hoses that are designed to fail, will come back and bite you. Ask me how I know...
You need a new thermostat in your truck if the engine coolant temps are that low. Make sure and either buy an OEM thermostat at a dealer (2yr/unlimited mileage warranty) or buy yourself a Mishimoto 200 degree thermostat (lifetime from what I remember).
Other than that, change your fluids and filters yourself with Motorcraft filters, but synthetic fluids and your truck will be happy. The trans will take the newer Mercon LV without a problem.
If the dealer is not responsive, I would file a complaint through the Dealer Licensing authority in Nevada. I believe if you approach this as an alert to the authority regarding the consumer safety issues in what the dealer did in swapping the tires as an issue of public safety as opposed to a complaint seeking money, you will get a better result and most likely get restitution as part of the complaint. As you know, Public Safety is a primary concern of these licensing agencies as opposed to resolving disputes with disgruntled buyers of vehicles. I would do some online research on the official Nevada websites. The form at this link may be your starting point: http://www.dmvnv.com/pdfforms/ced020.pdf
Ok guys thanks.. I will get a thermostat today. Do you think that they intentionally removed the thermostat so it would not be putting pressure on the oil cooler? As of now I don't trust him as far as I can throw him which isn't far. So I need to order a coolant filter ,get a new cap and replace thermostat, and yes change fluids and replace filters with motorcraft. Looks I have my day planned out lol...
It's too much trouble for someone to remove the thermostat. These things fail on their own. No telling, but they fail inconsistently. That's why I went with a Mishimoto, it stays at 200 degrees+ and doesn't crap out like the Motorcraft.
The orginal that came with the truck wouldn't go past 170*, the second one I bought wouldn't go past 188*, I got tired of having to replace the thermostat, so I said screw it and went with the Mishimoto.
