I took the rear window back out so I could tint it, I was having way too much problems trying to install the film while the window was installed. So today the window went back in and third brake light applied to the window
John,
2 questions:
1. What brand/type of 3rd brake light is that? Is it just stuck to the tint, or did you tint around it.
2. Does the rear window seal lip wrap over the abs panels? I am trying to figure out if I need to paint the metal lip around the window on the inside of my cab, or if it is all covered.
The third brake light was a relatively cheap LED strip that only cost $10, the housing for it was made from a scrap piece of wood I had in the shop that I shaped with my router and the painted black. I used some 3M tape and stuck it to the tint film. Never had a problem and is very visible through the tint. I did the same for my panel and will be making another the one I'm working on now..
The window seal holds the ABS liner in place...

So you don't see any metal around the window? It would be okay to leave it primer, Correct?
I like that third brake light idea! May just need to borrow it for my truck. How long of strip did you use, 8 in.? It that a double row of LEDs?
I had been looking for a third brake light that would mount in that area but didn't see any with a 90 bracket. Also, none of the generic third brake lights had a finished back to the housing. I never considered sticking the light to the window and making my own housing.
This one, for example, the housing is open on the back. But I wonder if the strip could come out of the housing?

Chrome trim I bought at our Canadian Tire hardware store but here is the link to the product https://cowlesproducts.com/body-molding-official/
The LED strip I used on the pickup was a double row, on my panel it was just a single row...
Is there enough room in the seal so that if you build up the lip around the inside of the window say 1/16" (With Lizardskin) will the seal will still slip over it?

This is the lip I am referring too....
I don't think it will be a problem but I can check the rubber weather stripping I have for the one I'm doing now to see its limits
