when I saw this truck about 6 months it was similar but had a lot better body lines. I hope they go back to what I saw. And FYI the grill looks almost identical to what I saw. I was not a fan and rated it a 1.

I was at a larger dealer a couple of days ago and the GM was commenting on my new truck, then we drifted over to the new SD's that Ford would be releasing. He said ("with some confidence) they will look very similar with a top of the line F 150 and I pointed to a row of new F 150's and he said no, "that one". This was a top of the line F 150 with a window sticker of about $66k. The grille was different and lots of styling touches that really set it apart from the other F 150's. He said the "styling ques will come from that".
He thinks the SD and top of the line F 150 will look a lot more alike than in the past. Ford wants F 150 buyers to think they are getting a smaller SD.
It's all pure speculation. Ford doesn't have conversations about styling with dealer personnel before a public release. And I REALLY don't think the photo is authentic. The 2017 could look similar or completely different for all we know.

while I agree that we are speculating, the process of changing plant tooling is long and tested frequently. so while they are close to shutting down 2015 orders (if not already), they are locked on what needs to be done for 2016 and are testing the changes needed for 2017 right now. So, everything is pretty well locked down for the 17's already. when u have to make 500,000 a year you have to get the manufacturing and suppliers processes baked and locked down with quite some lead time.
It's a survey/testing place where you sign an agreement and look at upcoming manufacturing vehicle and rate what you like and don't like. No photos to be taken etc.
Go ahead and build this truck with a 4 liter TD engine and 8 speed tranny...
Call it SD-L (light) and give it an F200 Badge!
You could kick out the other players in the small-mid size Diesel camp altogether..
But whatever you do - get rid of ANY notions you might have in regard to foisting this thing on your devoted Super Duty buyers - because we just are not having it...
So - get back to work on our new Super Duty trucks and bring us back something that will not only kick the other guys in the sack, but out of the ballpark...
Just remember - we have choices and bleeding Ford Blue is one of them...
Not trying to be a Richard, but you guys will NOT buy a new Ford if it looks like this? You'll go to "Gub'mint motors" or Chrysler..? Really?
Just curious - not trying to throw anyone under the bus....or, the F-250 so to speak.
Looks aren't everything in my book... Frankly, I am not crazy about the body esthetics of the 2011-2015 trucks and I spent a heckuvalotamoney to buy one.
If the looks of this truck are any indication as to what is underneath (HD F150?), then yes, they will have lost me and yes I would choose one of the other two.
Just based on looks alone, I would not pull over the car and walk into the showroom...
I am hoping that Ford does read threads like this and get a more MANLY design and keep the underpinnings as good/strong or BETTER than our current trucks..
I really don't care about looks to be honest, nor do I care who makes it. Marvin the freaking Martian could open up a truck factory and I'd happily buy one if it was the best tool for the job. I've test driven trucks from the Big 3 as well as Toyota, and I'll definitely be taking a good luck at the HD Nissan Titan coming out at the end of the year.
Whichever turns out to be the best truck for my needs at the best value will win my dollars. I've always looked at a truck as a tool, and I just don't understand why everyone is so worked up over what such a tool looks like.
