Speedometer

Speedo suddenly went haywire today... reading 20 mph above... verified with SGII... needle wont drop back to 0 at all.

Am aware of the TSB which says if the ECM and the gauge differ by more than 5mph, replace cluster.

So.... options???

Is there any reputable place to have it repaired?
Can I buy a new one?
Basic google search of above didn't get me much...

Am going to disconnect batteries tonight and see if that changes anything.

And of course, it's a lariat and has the white gauges... even harder to find?

Anybody got any suggestions?

Press the Setup and Reset buttons and hold them, then turn the key to on, the gauges should do a full sweep and the display will say TEST. This might zero it. From there you can let go of the buttons and start the truck. Press Reset button to cycle through some interesting displays. Some are self explanatory and I don't know what the others mean.

Also, I've read the needle can actually back off the shaft and touch the lense, causing it to stick.

If you just want to send it off for repairs, I think Circuit Board Medics work on them and I'm not sure but I think everyone's favorite Ed (FICMRepair.com - FORD Powerstroke 6.0 FICM Repair, PHP Tuning and Truck Parts) may be doing those type of repairs now also.

Thank you!

I thought I had heard somewhere in the grapevine that Ed was going to start working on these... just hasn't advertised it yet?

Will go check the status and reset button now. See what happens.

Sweep fixed it! I had tried all the other combinations of the buttons and turning the ignition on to try to get sweep/test mode...

Lotsa info in there...

Reps Rusty... thanks again... we'll see if it stays fixed.

As I understand it he is working on other things.

Could be a frozen spider that was trying to get warm and you kicked her
out in the cole with the sweep test.

I once got a free hair cut because of the tiny spiders. Propane pool heater
that belched flame back at me do to some plugged nozzles on the gas burner.
So now I clean the nozzles if it's been off for any amount of time. Don't mind
the hair cut it's just the smell of burnt hair that sucks.

Anyway those tiny white spiders get into some places where you would think
that they would not be able to get to.
