A strange one
When I turned the key on the 96 350 we have at work I saw the speedo go from 0 to max then drop back down to 0 and the odometer read E 08 3.
When the WTS light went out I started it and the same thing happened the speedo maxed and dropped to 0 and the odometer read E 08 3. While driving the speedometer stayed at 0 and when I hit the select button that would switch to trip meter the odometer read 111111 then when I hit it again it went to 222222 then 333333 and so on. All other gages seemed to work fine. This happened every time I started the truck then while driving I hit the set button that would set the trip meter to 0 a bunch of times and every thing went to normal and it looks like the miles I added while it was acting up were added. What was all that about??????????????

Someone pushed all the right buttons to do an instrument cluster check...stop messing with the buttons....
This is for a 2003..not sure if our trucks are the same:
Instrument Cluster Dealer Test Mode
To enter the Instrument Cluster Dealer Test Mode, depress and hold the instrument cluster SELECT/RESET button and then turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. Continue pressing the SELECT/RESET button (five seconds) until tESt is displayed in the odometer. The SELECT/RESET button must be released within three seconds of the odometer displaying tESt to begin the dealer test mode. Depress the SELECT/RESET button to advance through the following steps until dtc is displayed. Depressing the SELECT/RESET button will display any continuous DTCs stored before proceeding to the next step.

You got into the programming mode to change the speedo to match tire sizes. The 3 in the E 08 3 indicates it has been programmed 3 times .. starts at 6 then counts down. Once at 0 it no longer can be programmed. I can't remember for sure but it's something like hold down the reset and turn key to run get you into that mode so maybe it's stuck.

OOOPS! I was just trying to set the tripmeter to 0 because I am looking into mileage.
Looks like I just stumbled into this. So far it looks like this truck only gets 9 MPG! It has a dump on the back and gets nothing but city driving. Never have too much weight in the back. Maybe 4 to 500 pounds. What do you think of the MPG?
