Getting ready to do my breaks and rotors and my front right hub is shot after only 20,000 miles.. I replaced both front hubs at same time... Going with a moog unit.. The drivers side is still tight but should I replace them as a pair or wait till that hub goes out then replace? The hub is around $170 for the part.
What year truck are you working on? What issue are you experiencing? A hub assembly should last a lot longer than 20k and should be under a parts warranty still.
2003 excursion 7.3... Front passenger side hub.. It's lifted 4.5 inches and I'm running 35 x 12.5 x 20 tires and rims.. Loud drone and vibration and the tire wearing unevenly and when u jack it up you can move the tire by hand by pushing on the top and bottom.. It's clearly the hub assembly I'm afraid...
No abnormal movement in the ball joints? Popping or binding on tight turns? If not I'd agreed its probably a hub assembly issue. Lifts and larger tires seem to be pretty hard on these parts so make sure to spend the extra cash on a good brand. I used Moog and have been happy so far.
I would say wait on the driver's side it may last a long time. Unless you don't mind the extra cost or can afford your vehicle being OOS even for a day or two then do it now. Are you aware of the crazy pricing for these hub assemblies?
I'm putting a moog unit on the passenger side.. I found it for $170 ish which is a pretty good price.. I guess I'll just grease the driver side with the riff raff sensor grease attachment thingy... Maybe it will last
I didn't have any come out on the front. Maybe a cup or so on the rear. The fluid on the rear hub seal is from inside the hub not from the diff. It is the oil bath that the bearings sit in and will need to be replaced during reassembly.
