My 97 F350 CC 4wd with a 460 and approx. 20k on a rebuilt trans is giving me a bump a few seconds after stopping at a light. It had a Banks Trans command on it but started shifting hard and blinking the OD light so after unplugging and bypassing it all is fine.
I thought I was being rear ended at first but after coming to a complete stop about 5-10 seconds later there will be a slight lurch or bump. I've been told it is dropping back down into 1st gear or my TC clutch is bad.
I'd be worried. The week before I married my wife, her '94 Taurus started acting like that. You'd pull up to a light, then you'd have to brake a lot harder to keep it from hitting the car in front of you. It wouldn't downshift out of 4th until it was stopped for a little while. If we kept it out of OD, it wasn't so bad. Well, we took it on our honeymoon, and by the end of the week, we had no reverse. Trans was replaced under warranty, so I can't tell you what the exact problem was. I'm not saying we had the same problem, but it could get real serious real quick.
sounds like the converter wasn't unlocking.if it's no longer doing it with the banks transcommand in line, you should be good to go.
it's much better to install a real shift kit anyway; https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...shift-kit.html

Should I be worried?
Maybe, maybe not. There isn't really enough info here to determine what's happening.
What happens if you move the shift handle to 2 at about 10 MPH and come to a stop? Do you still get the lurch 5-10 seconds later?

A complete red herring. Unless you somehow put a rear wheel drive E4OD in a front wheel drive Taurus I can't see how the problem you had could possibly be the same as he did.

If the converter wasn't unlocking the engine would stall when he came to a stop.
Thanks for chiming in Mark. To clarify the trans operated normally until one day I got the extremely hard shift and blinking OD light my first thought was to unplug the Banks unit as it was simple to do and the trans began operating normally again meaning no OD light blink and hard shifting.
A week or so later I noticed this little bump, I may have been generous with the 5-10 seconds but will say a few seconds after stopping and no not every time. I have not yet pulled the codes but will do so when I get the trans flushed.
I spoke to the PO and he said it was a "performance rebuild" but had no further details other than it was done at a long standing shop with a good reputation specializing in Ford trans.
Dropped into 2nd and no lurch. Does not seem to be doing it anymore either. Funny thing is my work truck does it too its a 13 RAM 5500 with the Aisin trans and when I started asking other HD truck owners about it they al had their ideas but one guy said it was the hydro boost when you stop you get a great deal of pressure then it "bleeds off" a bit sitting there and you get a lurch. I dunno sounds good.
