You will have to tell us what "soda can low" means.

My guess is so low you can't clear a soda can, but is that standing up can or laying on its side? Could be way off, too.

Maximum drop on the straight axle trucks is 2-3in in the front without going to ifs or notching the frame.

Your comment about lowering blocks indicates that you have not been under your truck to examine the suspension. Lowering blocks do not work on our trucks without an axle flip and frame notch.

A 2-3in drop is possible at low cost, anything more than that is a lot of effort and money.

First things first. To get soda can low I highly doubt you will be in the "budget friendly" way. To get that kind of drop out of your straight axle you will need frame notching or else an IFS to achieve your lowered stance your going for. The rear you can get away with an axle flip but that will require a frame notch unless you want almost no suspension travel before you bounce the axle against the frame. You could take out leaf springs but that won't get you to your goal. Also it will lower your cargo load capacity if you ever plan to use it to haul anything or tow. Lowering shackles can be used in the rear but again it won't get you where your wanting it to sit. Either some cutting/welding on the frame is in your future or spending out of budget is in your future my friend.

My recommendation would be to call Art Morrison and get ready to write a big 'ol check. Or you could head over to Jalopy Journal and get some advice there. There's people over there who know the old school and cheaper ways, though not always safe, to lower a car or truck. It seems to me that the knowlege on FTE is more about stock, near stock, and drivability improvements.

1 in is all you will get with shackles.

2 in and the shackle hits the bottom of the bed.

You can flip the second leaf on the springs and get 2-3 in, that will cost nothing except for the labor if you have some all thread and a couple big clamps.

Wow ok well thank you to everyone for the information on this. It is very appreciated for sure. Seems to me the lowered to the top of a standing upright soda can will take some cash to achieve. So on that case then I think I will have to go with what looks to maybe a 2" drop at the max for now. To be in a budget drop without spending a lot of dollars.

I like that way of lowering it. Turned out with a really good stance. Can't beat that way to do a lowed truck on the cheap. What is the distance from bump stop to axle on it after the change?
