Lowering Jaguar IFS

I have a quick question, how are you guys lowering your jaguar ifs? Are you cutting springs, lowering the springs or what? I've seen a few truck that sit pretty low with jag ifs, but I don't know how they got there. I tried the search option, but most threads cover the installation. Any help you guys can give me is appreciated!!

How low do you want to go? I'm not personally experienced with using the Jag front suspension, but from what I've seen, it appears folks are using the Jag crossmember and attaching it directly to the underside of the frame rails, and where it sits is how low you get. And it appears that's quite a bit. To get lower, the best way would be to custom build pickup points and a crossmember for the suspension parts to attach to, where you could make it as low as you wanted to, until you're scraping the ground. You just have to pay really close attention to your geometry, or you'll have a really big mess.

There are dropped spindles available if you want to bounce the frame off the ground with every bump.

Not looking to bounce the frame off the ground, but I would like for it to sit pretty low. I've flipped the rear axle, and I would like for the front to match. I guess a better question would be how much does the jag ifs installation lower the truck?

Sorry to be flippant with a new user, especially without using smilie to indicate I was trying to be humerous.
The Jag install lowers the front quite a lot, likely lower than your rear mod. I haven't heard many complaints after install they wanted it lower yet.

No worries AXracer! I'm especially glad to hear that the install drops the front quite a bit, I can hardly wait to get going on this! Thanks forthe help.

With my 9 inch rear with reversed eyes, the rear spring front mount moved up on the frame and 3 leaves removed, there is still a rake with the Jag front lower than the rear. If I had the rear any lower, I would not have sufficient suspension travel unless I Zee'd the frame which I choose not to do. If you want a great big rake you would need to cut the frame to weld in the jag crossmember like the volare guys do. the other option is big a very littles. Sorry no pix since I am not currently assembled completely.

Sounds good! If it has too much rake, I can always add a 1 or 2 inch block to the rear now that the springs are under the axle . The frame has also been c-notched for clearance. Thanks for the answers guys!!

are you using 80's XJ6/12 suspensions? Reason I ask, I have access to an 87 xj6. I could glom the suspension before it goes to the crusher.

If you can get the front end out the Jag, get it. Get all of the power steering components, pump and brackets, hoses, and the steering shaft. Try to get the entire shaft, taking it loose from the steering column. Also get the rubber mounts that mount the suspension to the frame.

Go and save it! If it is a 1987, it should have the large donut attachment points to the crossmember forward on the crossmember. See my gallery for some pix. Take the complete crossmember with all of the suspension/steering rack and shocks attached. Also take the "Z" joint (unusual joint between the steering column and the pinion on the rack).

once its in and you determine its not low enough for you , you can lower a little more, theres a plate bolted to the bottom of the lower control arm that the spring sits in. you can drop it down 1/2" to 1" with spacers (its bolted in) and this will drop the truck a little more. i cut all the factory Jag mounts off mine and welded plates to it and then just bolted the front end in. i didnt think it was nessasary to have the k-member mounted with rubber mounts. It made it much more appealing to the eyes and lowered it slightly more.

How low do you want? I thought my worn XJ6 springs would be too tall but they are perfect, my running boards are about 6" off the ground. They settled in nicely once I had some miles on the truck. I removed the plastic spacers from the springs, other than that stock springs.

There are a few of us here that have lowered the Jag IFS. Check the "Search" for more information.

Mine: Original springs, 3 washers between the lower control arm and spring mounting plate, removed the lower spring pads.
