The dealer "Timed" the engine many years ago and said it would help on towing. What it did was made it a lot noisier than it was new. It may have given me more but it was at a cost. The heads were machined at .004 off just to make them flat. Ford says you can take .008 off but no more than that. the engine runs smoother now and not so damn noisy.I'm a lot happier now.

How can you time an engine that runs off of compression? I suppose raising compression would? Was it a reflash for the FICM?

WTF!?!?!?!??

A class action suit for what precisely? The truck is 11 years old. As a point of fact, the biggest fault in the injectors was forcing the change to ULSD. So who ya gonna sue?

Ford actually says that you can not machine the heads at all - none, period.

If you want, type in Ford 6.0 class action law suits on GOOGLE and see what I saw. Seems someone that had a 2005 got it bought back because of the 6.0 crap. Oh by the way, mine is 10 years old and 104556 on the motor. Diesels should last at least 300000 befor having to get into them.

Thats kind of funny. This dealer that was called says they have a bullitin on that very thing. How else you going to get them flat? Buy new? Have you checked the price of those things?

New ones are not flat either. Super duty service has a video of machining a set of new heads, it took .003 to get the brand new oem heads flat.

I hear ya. I can gladly post the TSB from Ford when I get a minute. Probably still have a link to Ford's video on it also. Ask your dealership to show you the bulletin (I guess it could always be a new position Ford is taking)!

I agree though about it being OK to mill the heads some (and also agree that even the new ones aren't flat), but it has not been Ford's position to endorse milling heads.

This may be the video (past the link in your video software's "Play URL" command line) - about 4 and a half minutes in:

Here's my vid

I've never heard of retiming this engine. Unless it was a tooth off or two. The only real way is to remove the engine,, flip over, remove the bed plate, and lift the crankshaft with a hoist just enough to spin the cam. If the engine wasn't removed,, then the truck was "tuned",, not "timed". I know,, we are splitting hairs here. Lol. Maybe my video caused Ford to change their position??? Lol

Yes we are splitting hairs here. They had to take .004 off of my heads to make them flat and pressure tested good. No cracks. Now I have one more problem and I am taking it back to the shop because I now get some surging and the last one shut the truck down and wouldn't restart. Disconnected the batteries and reset the computer. Started right up but still have some surging. More power out of this thing now but can't have the surge especially when I am towing my trailer. 29 foot toy hauler.

Is the Surge like high low throttle then stalls out? keep your foot on the brake when it high throttle jump? , or little by little power going out it just dies? and always seem to hot start right back up ? or have to wait when hot for a little bit ?
the first one for me was the ICP and Pig tail.
