In my recently purchased 2000 V10 EX the gauge face is white. I really do not like it and the vehicle came with a black one as well (maybe the original) I want to change it out but I don't think this is a DIY for me at least. What type of shop should I take it too? Auto body? Dealer?
The other thing is the guages are jerky goes from 60 to 80 to 40, when driving the speedometer will be off min 5mpg when not jumping around and sitting in park (not moving) the speedometer reads 5-7mph. Gas Guage not really tracking, etc. Could an improper gauge face install cause these problems?
Any help would be much appreciated. I am willing to spend money changing it out as it's about the only thing I don't like about my ex. Don't know where to take it and if the face is adding to my gauges being off?
When each needle was removed it was not re-positioned correctly.

I remember reading the instructions on one of those sets a friend of mine installed...they want you to warm up the engine to get everything set and note the position of the temp, battery, RPM, etc.
Then they want you to completely tear the dash apart, pull the gauges, swap the face and then start it back up (presumably still with the dash torn apart) so you can put the gauge needles back in the right spot - hopefully before the engine cooled off enough to make the needles move.
...the only way I can see that you'd be able to get the speedo correct would be to actually be driving a set speed (measured with something like a GPS?) WHILE YOU PUT THE NEEDLE BACK ON. The needle rests against the stop pin when off, but with how much pressure? Just setting the needle against the stop pin and pushing it in (with zero pressure) could result in your speedo now being off.
Looks like something similar may have happened when the PO swapped your gauge face.
The "jumping" I would think probably isn't the gauge face...that would cause it to stick as the needle hits the gauge face. If it's jumping around, that sounds like a bad speed sensor or wiring somewhere. I remember in my old Expedition if I over-filled the tank, the fuel gauge would snap to empty and the oil/temp light would come on, then it would all go back to normal for a while, then snap back...it would do that for 10-20 miles or so then recover. The dealer though it was an issue with the fuel level sensor shorting when the float went too high. Made total sense and the actions (flipping out for a while until some fuel was used) also matched up. Wasn't enough for me to drop the tank and install a new one, but a freaky speedo would annoy me enough to try to fix it.
I'd suggest just taking it to a speedo shop and having them set the gauges back the right way and help troubleshoot the speedo twitch.
