Replacing Battery cable or connector

Hey there. So my connector on the positive cable to the battery has corroded pretty badly and doesn't make good contact anymore. I bought a new connector, but there is no slack in the cable for me to cut the end off and put on a new connector. It will not reach at the post of I cut the cable back. That cable is so thick, I don't even know where to buy that wire to extend the line.

Any thoughts on this?

Oh and white tape is where I'd messed with it before and taped over the exposed wire.

Me too

Man I need this fix also.
I want to buy a new cable but can't find one.

I even had a car stereo shop look at it and they declined the repair. That short cable sucks.

I hope someone here posts a good option.

Ford sells replacement OEM cable sets for right at $80, paired and perfect length for whatever year chassis. Since OP didn't list his/her model year kinda tough to know for sure.

Seems age takes a toll on those cables even though they'll look to be in very good condition. There might be great aftermarket cable sets but for my money I'd go the OEM route.

That is all fine and good, until you find out the part you need is obsolete.
Some parts change anually. Or, is that anally?

Whichever it is 'tis aggravating beyond belief when it befalls us, right?

If your van is in good or great shape IMHO it would be worth a few dollars more having a well respected battery or electrical shop fabricate better-than-new battery cables. The advantage is they can crimp or otherwise power form the connections leaving you with solid terminals, good for the longer term.

OTOH if you have the OEM part numbers chances are someone somewhere (like eBay) will have them at a fair price.

FWIW I've always disliked the repair type battery terminals. They're okay for unimportant vehicles or something to "just get by a while......." but not much else.

Sorry to add unrelated info.

if there is a

Batteries Plus Store near you...they can build cables to your specs while you wait. I like to use welding cables my self for all my battery bank stuff. your choice of ends..length, size..etc

Just one option..

Also, if ur handy with a MAPP torch you can cut and splice it with the proper solder slugs...another idea. Minor poblem..minor fix..major headache if you let it corrode to death.

then you might like this as wellhttp://www.fastronixsolutions.com/Ba...tors%20BPA.htm

I use these usually..

Well I checked the option for instant email notification when replies happen, but I just got one and see that I've missed an entire conversation.

Mine is a 2004. I may have to try the parts store method. $80 is a bit more than what I want to spend for what I think is a good cable with a bad connector.
