2000 V10 Battery Terminal +
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
The corrosion damage you can see is just the tip of the iceberg. The acid corrosion can also creep down the cable, and you won't be able to see it. Soldering or crimping a new post connector onto the damaged cable will lead to all sorts of odd electrical gremlins.
Also, you'll never get a connector attached to a cable as well as the factories that cast the connectors directly onto the cable.
So, find both ends of the cable, measure how long it is. Run down to your local auto parts or fleet/farm store and purchase a new cable that is at least as long as the one you are replacing. (Yes, they have them with a second wire attached also). Also pick up a pack of those little felt washers. They really do work to prevent this from happening. Also, get a battery brush, or a wire brush if you can't find a battery brush.
When you get home:
Disconnect the negative terminal.
Disconnect and remove the positive cable. (You may have to do a little tape cutting to extract it from the wiring harness.)
Clean off the battery. Clean off and wire brush the battery terminals. Remove all evidence of corrosion. (Use eye protection, please)
Install the new felt washers.
Connect the new positive cable. (Remember to reuse the post guard.)
Connect up the negative cable.
Start truck. While it is running and remapping the idle, reprogram your radio.
