Yeah ok. It sounds like a big block gas V8. A high compression, low-revving big block, because that's basically what it is. The turbo doesn't change anything except that you hear the turbo in the low RPM's before the rest of the engine noise overpowers it.
I didn't say I wanted it to sound like a cummins, I would have been happy if it sounded like a Powerstroke, but it sounds like a brappy, straight piped V8 if you use straight pipes on it, and I know because that's what I had first.
I really dont think youve had a stacked big block, i wish i had a video clip... they really sound nothing alike until youre completely wound out. Even the a gas engine has a much softer "dirtier" sound, not to mention all the cackling and backrap that the diesel doesnt (or shouldnt) have. In alot of ways a gas engine sounds alot better with stacks.
Dont take me wrong here im not intending to be an ***, i just think alot of people assume the 6.9/7.3 sounds like what they expect a 460 to sound like, when that simply isnt the case. Guess its just kind of a pet peeve of mine. again... preference, but imho a straight piped 7.3 psd sounds like garbage to my ears, albeit not as bad as a d-max. Gimme a 6.0, 3208, 1160, E9, 6.9/7.3... hell even a 6.2 if i were soley judging and engine by its exhaust sound. We have a 69 f8000 with the 1160, 4" true dual 10' stacks... 5x4 brownie setup, trust me, that is one truck you dont get tired of driving lol
