But here's my question.
I just bought the ford dealer workshop manuals.
In the manual it states nothing about pulling the cab off to replace or remove the heads.
It says " in vehicle repair" and tells you the steps to remove the heads.
Am I missing something? I've changed many heads on diffrent engines in the past. I would love to break down this motor myself and do the apr studs soon but don't want to get half way into this and realize I have to pull the motor to do it. It's not a van.. it's a 2006 f250.
So unless I missed something in the workshop manuals ... can it be done in the vehicle?
Thanks in adavanced!
If you go in from the front ( take off bumper, coolers, radiator and the top cross member ) you can do most of the work standing on the ground, it's much easier than going in from the top!

Also if you don't want to go that route. A sheetrock bench is
a very good work platform. It can be adjusted so you at the
right working level. The only thing that is a problem is the hood
latch.

I'm thinking about doing that. Reason being as I'm probably going to install a new water pump as it's tore down.
I get someone to help me take the hood off........that way no scratches, latch too
I'll probably keep the hood on as I'm doing this in front of my garage outside. I have a 2 car garage but it's filled with tools.. and motorcycles... it's kinda turned into a welding/fab / auto/ crap/ toy shop. So keeping the hood on for weather protection is important here in Florida... it rains here. Lol.

That's a great idea and I agree.. The hood latch is a pain in the ****.. When I did the egr delete and all the other crap.. I was always hitting that hood latch. Catches on everything always at the worse time.
