Beating a dead head subject.

Ok.. I've read and read..

But here's my question.
I just bought the ford dealer workshop manuals.
In the manual it states nothing about pulling the cab off to replace or remove the heads.
It says " in vehicle repair" and tells you the steps to remove the heads.
Am I missing something? I've changed many heads on diffrent engines in the past. I would love to break down this motor myself and do the apr studs soon but don't want to get half way into this and realize I have to pull the motor to do it. It's not a van.. it's a 2006 f250.
So unless I missed something in the workshop manuals ... can it be done in the vehicle?
Thanks in adavanced!

Using the special cylinder head lifting bracket makes life a lot simpler cab-on.

If you go in from the front ( take off bumper, coolers, radiator and the top cross member ) you can do most of the work standing on the ground, it's much easier than going in from the top!

If you have the right kind of lift then it's easier to lift the cab. Some of the techs say they can have the cab in the air in 2 hrs.

If you do it cab on then I would remove the a/c box, some have done it just by removing the A/C box cover.

You need a good machine shop that you trust to check the heads. Very important part of the job IMO and you need to have someone do it.

Also if you don't want to go that route. A sheetrock bench is
a very good work platform. It can be adjusted so you at the
right working level. The only thing that is a problem is the hood
latch.

I'm thinking about doing that. Reason being as I'm probably going to install a new water pump as it's tore down.

I'll probably keep the hood on as I'm doing this in front of my garage outside. I have a 2 car garage but it's filled with tools.. and motorcycles... it's kinda turned into a welding/fab / auto/ crap/ toy shop. So keeping the hood on for weather protection is important here in Florida... it rains here. Lol.

That's a great idea and I agree.. The hood latch is a pain in the ****.. When I did the egr delete and all the other crap.. I was always hitting that hood latch. Catches on everything always at the worse time.

The only type of lift I have is a grapple truck. That would make it a convertible. I wish I had the right lift.

So ill do some reading about removing the ac cover or box. If it will make it easier it's coming off.

As to the heads going to a machine shop.. for sure... might even do a complete tear down and replace all valves and seats.
