I think I seen that somewhere.. read that thread. I only use my note 3 when on the forum and I'm on the mobile mode. So I might have to turn on the desktop and find that. I don't think you can save threads on the mobile version. But I'm new and could be mistaken.
One reason you do not find any mention of pulling the cab is it isn't a Ford procedure developed by independants. The engine was origionally designed to be pulled out the front.
The whole front clip and crossmember are designed to be removed. There used to be a special lifting bracket that fit in place of the stator.
Ford techs adopted the procedure cause it worked so well.

I hear you. If i have to pull the motor then I won't do it. As I'm doing all this in my drive. I'm going to read the big book again.. I can see removal of the air conditioner box or cover but removing the cross member or motor from the tranny isn't what I want to do. I just really wanted to know if it was doable with motor in as I read people do the cab off or pull the motor out the front to do it. I love tackling jobs like this to a certain degree. It's more of a hobby. My truck runs great but I'd like to add a little more hp with a sct tuner. Not looking for anything ridiculous as I don't want to tear up my baby. Just want to know she will stay together if I add 100 hp.
Great write up for sure. Thank you. It really confirms that the heads need a complete overhaul. I only have 99k on the truck but If they are out I'm doing it right. Wonder what a complete head rebuild with new valves and seats and recut would cost.

I think he said about 1k a head, not cheap for sure.
Didn't know that was an option. What's the advantages to going that route?
There a little shorter. There considered an upgrade. When you purchase new push rods from Ford you will get the new shorter ones. So basically all you do is get a new set of push rods from Ford and you will be getting the upgraded ones. They were stock by the time the 6.4 came out.
Ok.. yea. I read somewhere that the new pushrods are 0.005 shorter. So that's the upgrade.
I've also read about some bent push rods so I'm assuming this is the fix.
Early on Ford determined the push rods were a little too long and were applying too much pressure on the rollers of the lifters so they could not roll properly.
This would cause many rollers to wear a flat spot and shortly after begin spitting out needle bearings. This would in turn take out the lpop and damage the front cover.
They came out with some shorter push rods which were actually the same rod used in the 6,4.

Great explanation. Thank you.
So get the 6.4 rods or the oem upgraded rods for the 6.0.. They are the same. Will do. Any other options or upgrades for the heads for the 6.0 that you all know of?
Do guys port them out a little? Or bigger valves?
I don't think the shorter ones are the fix to bent push rods, I think they just cause less stress on the valve train. Bent push rods do happen but I have yet to figure the reason. After replacing the head gaskets you should turn the engine over by hand several times before starting. This should reduce the chances of bending a push rod, but not guarantee it.

.
Read in manual also to rotate the crankshaft until the damper locating dowel to the 6 o'clock position or engine damage can occur.
On turning the crank.
It's a good idea to hand turn the crank with the injectors out and
check that the valve train is moving and not binding. Just incase
you got a push rod that did not settle into the cup on the lifter.
Some have even done this between each step in the torque process.
Just use a little care and you should have them seated in the lifter cup
and not have to worry about it.
BTW I was at the Post Office today to mail the box and somehow
I must of dropped the address label that I had.
Quick way to feel stupid after the line at the window.

That's a great right up on the bracket. Will be coping that. I'm always fabricating my own tools
As to the post office. Lmao... I was there yesterday watching a young kid checkout.. trying credit card after credit card. .. declined.. felt bad for him...
no rush on the manual.. I'll just hook this red wire to the black!
