If range is an issue ford makes the Longer distance Bi-Directional. I don't think I would install anything aftermarket like that, that needs to hook into the system to start the truck. Anything happens and it's not Ford, you are gonna be on the hook for the repair. That being said I do have a tuner on my truck, but it's the most reputable and I waited for numerous reviews before I bought it. I have never even heard of Crimestopper and the only aftermarket remote starts I have seen are junk. They will lock the vehicle and the clicker will stop working, it will screw with the security system. Just my .2 cents, let us know how you end up.

I know what you mean LOL.

I did stand there and knew and watch the Ford tech install my Ford two-way. He dropped the glove box, change the factory remote box with the two way box and programed and test. I

Matt: I understand what you’re saying.<O</O
<O</O

The Ford Techs around here try to talk you out of the Ford Remote. I have two Ford remote systems, one from the factory on a 2013 Ford Edge and upgraded the one on my 2013 F350 to a Ford longer range bi-directional. It took Ford 3 months to figure out the update File so that I could select remote options on my dash screen (eg: run time). One reason why I wanted a “Ford” remote that is integrated. Plus I thought (Was told) that I would only have one Key FOB.<O</O
<O</O

With my Edge I have to be within 30 feet to press the lock door button once and start button twice for a reliable start.

With my truck I’m suppose to just press the start button twice on the separate FOB and it beeps to say it sent the signal and then when the truck starts the FOB should beep twice and the button on the FOB should blink while running in remote. The thing is, this is hit or miss if it will work. The only thing that seems to be reliable is that if I press the door lock on the Key FOB and then the remote FOB it will work every time!! The thing is that the Key FOB is only reliable at few feet and the bi-directional FOB is good for 3000 ft. So for over 16 months Ford has been looking into my problem but they really want me to buy an after market one, I don’t bring it up.<O</O
<O</O

Some other things are the Pit stop function doesn’t work and the Doors lock every time the truck is started by remote so it is a jugging game with two FOBs every time. So my next step is to buy the Ford cell phone APP which has an annual fee. Or go with an after market system that only survive on their product and support.

The biggest thing to look for (if your planning on going aftermarket) is that the remote start is compatible with a diesel, for the glow plug time delay start.

That being said. I don't have an issue with the range on my dads factory remote start on his 2014 KR. It seems to work from about 150ft away or more and that to me is plenty.
