remote starters

I'm looking for a remote starter for my 2004 supercab xlt 4x4. Every store I go to they, have the best one out there. Does anybody have any suggestions to which is a good remote starter and which ones to stay away from.

I have a Clifford Matrix 3 for my Ranger. The thing is great, I have not had any problems with it. I would stay away from all those cheap ones on ebay. I have heard horror stories about them. Like the remote dies after 3 months use and there is no customer support in English. I would go with a Clifford or any DEI makes. (they make Clifford)

If I were you, I'd get it done professionally. I had the dealership do mine. I believe it's a CodeAlarm. Anyway, it's now covered under my warranty and can be serviced by any Ford dealership. Past that, Clippard and Viper are some of the better aftermarket manufacturers.

don't forget the cost of a new key

Don't know what Ford will charge for a programmed key that you have to install (I assume) in the starter module, but I bet it smokes a C note.

btw, I had a Python and was happy with it.

Extra PATS keys can be purchased from ebay, cut by your local key shop, and self-programmed for $20 total.

FYI, the remote start alarm installed by the dealership does not require an extra key.

With dealerships, there's room for movement in the price ... just like when purchasing the vehicle. I got price quotes from two tint-n-alarm shops in town and then asked the dealership accessories guy to beat their price. Persnally, I paid $550 for the tint and alarm combination ... which beat the competition's price. As a bonus (in my opinion), both are now covered under my warranty.

dont pay that for a key... Your manaul tells you how to program another key. I have the Viper 791 with remote start. It works great. I paid about 550 for it installed. I even spent a little extra and added windo modules. That allows me to roll the windows up and down with the remote. Its pretty cool because when I get out of the truck and hit ht elock button it automatically rolls up the windows (including the rear slider).

Thumbs up

I had a Viper 550 w/remote start in my 97 and it worked flawlessly so I am having a Viper 791XV installed in my 2004 in the morning at a cost of $499 plus tax, at a place called Sound Advice. I went to my local dealer where I purchased my 2004 and told the sales manager that closed the deal on my truck that I needed the extra key for an alarm/remote starter. He took my 2 original keys, was gone for about 10 min. and came back with the third one, tested it to make sure they all worked and sent me on my way. NO charge for the key. Got lucky, but free is free. Viper was also suggested to me at the dealership whom by the way, sends their vehicles outside to have alarms and etc. installed.
