445 build

Last week I ordered a 445 Prison Break rotating assembly from Survival. I did go with the 9.8:1 Pistons since it's going in a truck. I did talk a little to Barry about it but not much yet. I did mention to him that the truck usually has either 37" or 40" tires on with 4spd and 4.10's. After talking to him I am planning on using using the Edelbrock heads and the RPM intake. We didn't get to talk much about cam selection and that's kinda what my hold up is. I'd like power right off idle but will take a cam that's say 1500 on up. I don't mind if I can hear the lop some but I don't want anything too radical. I think that would defeat what I'm doing. Anyone have any suggestions before I say what I was looking at?

With that much into it, you should be looking at roller cams. It'll let you get a lot of duration without the overlap ruining the low-end.

I was talking with Blair Patrick a while back and dreaming about the ultimate tow FE and that's the first thing he mentioned, roller cam. He's had some towing experience with that setup.

I agree roller would be nice but from what I've seen the rollers were more car grinds. I like the 62002 I think, it has the rpm range that's suitable for me. I really like the roller idea. For what I'm spending as it is what's another couple hundred lol.

I'm hoping the crank shows up this week so I can play a little this weekend

Well it's been a awhile since I posted anything mainly because I have nothing new to talk about. I have yet to see my rotating assembly show up. I was told last week that it would ship in a day or two but I guess it didn't.

I still haven't made up my mind on a cam yet I think mostly because Ive been worried where my crank is.

I'll be subscribing here. We bought a 445 stroker kit for our 64 Galaxie last year. Took 2-3 months to get it shipped. Had problems with piston suppliers and he got a bad batch of cranks from Scat that he had to deal with. Not sure what the problem would be now though.

Call Barry R at Survival Motorsports and ask him what the deal is. We had to do that several times. Kind of a pain in the ***.

Yea I'm not sure what the deal is either. I've tried calling dozens of times but he's very hard to get a hold of. I understand its noisy and a lot of people call.

I know he's very busy. And we had that problem too getting a hold of him. I think he said he talks like a thousand minutes a month on the phone or something like that? it was a lot, I remember that much!

I've actually looked at this cam and I do think it's a possibility. However Barry does offer a cam that has basically the same specs. I think it's .556/.556 112 280/284.
I'm wondering if that cam would work better for me with the longer duration with the longer stroke of the 445. I think I like the 112 lobe separation for better idle and torque.

The lunati cam and roller lifter can be bought for $600 shipped. The one Barry offers is a custom grind Comp Cams and whatever brand roller lifters he has for about $700 plus shipping. I don't really care about the $100 or so I just want a good strong cam that's not meant for a car.

I don't have to have a roller cam but I think I'm sold on the idea. It's just less stress with break in and I won't have to screw with removing a valve spring or anything like that just to break the cam in.

I'm open to opinions on the duration. I've read that too short of a duration on a 445 can mess with the cyl pressure making it a pinger and I don't want that.

Great to hear your parts are on the way. If I can afford it when the time comes I plan to go roller cam. Like you said it just seems to eliminate other problems that could arise with flat tappet set ups.
