I didn't get a part number, I'm getting a rotating assembly, heads, cam, and lifters, just asked him to add it in. He did tell me it was a Crane part for the .467 distributor shaft.
Since he is incredibly difficult to reach I don't think I'll have any more info until the parts show up.
What do you think about the 780 you bought? Do you think it's much different or better than the traditional Holley?
I sure hope so! Although not much more $$ than a holley. I do not really care for the silver color on the QF but its all about how it works and adjustability
Thanks for the links. The Mallory one doesn't say it is specifically for roller cams? The Crane one definitely does so I guess that's why its $30 more than the Mallory.
Wow been a while since I updated this. I'm all done the build and put about 100mi on it so far. I think it's going to make a nice motor when it's tuned. Here's a little idle video.
I ended up buying the Crane gear the week before I was ready to start it. The day I wanted to start it was the day I realized the distributor would need re drilled for the new gear. Somehow I completely overlooked that important detail. I never realized the hole were off center from the factory. Whoops
Sorry that's all I've got for now. I need to do a couple things to it here when I get a chance. It's just been sitting with my work schedule. Good thing about working 60 hr weeks I feel like spending some money!
I need to buy another harmonic balancer, from what I can see this one slipped. My timing keeps changing without me. I knew better too but what can I say. I also need to go over the valves one more time. I'm also contemplating switching distributors along with buying a wideband kit.
I talked to Faron Rhoads the other night about my distributor and decided that's where it's headed. I can't wait to get it back. I know it's never been touched besides by me adding the Pertronix a few years ago and the diff gear.
Getting a little deep in the fall here for this, but I've finally got almost all the parts I need to start putting my 445 together. Got the cam in today but realized I don't have the Woodruff keys, so need to find some on Monday. Did a trial fit on the rest of the top end to make sure the T&D rockers will work under my valve covers, make sure my pushrod length checker is the right length etc.
The BBM heads intake ports are a perfect fit to the gaskets, so easy to mark the intake for port matching. Got that done today, I'll take the intake to the machine shop when I pick up the keys and get him to toss it in his jet wash. Then I can put it together, get it in the truck, and fire it!
You're getting down to the exciting part. I love hearing something run for the first time. I'd say you won't be disappointed with yours it looks like you did all your homework. I'm kinda going through building withdrawal I think. Tomorrow I plan on tearing down a 460 I have sitting around and starting another build for another truck. It's not going to be near as elaborate as this one but more something to do.
