Ok so I bought a 94 f150 4th with a 300 6 in it with 5 speed transmission.when I got it the truck would not stay in fifth gear it would pop out of gear and was told it was shift fork.i don't drive the truck more than a few mile a week so I jut been using it like that but today I went to store about a mile away from house and notice my speedometer and odometer were not working. I checked the fuse and took the battery cable off and check it again and they started working again. I went to town again and was doing fine I came to a stop and put in first gear took off shifted to second and the the shifter went into second but it's still in first. I could not get it to shift into a higher gear.i got home and try ed to shift to reverse and it seems to be in a 4th or 5th with shifter in reverse position. Not really sure what's going on with this thing but any help would be appreciated.
As far as I know, the speedometer and odometer have nothing to do with the transmission on a '94, so those are separate issues.
The transmission problems sound like something internal. When I had an issue with a transmission not going into a specific gear, some of the internals in the transmission had broken and my 2nd gear was just sliding around (making it so sometimes I could go in and other times not). Either way, it needed to be disassembled and rebuilt.
If it is the forks though, you'll still need to at least partially disassemble the transmission to access them.

I didn't think the speedometer had anything to do with it either but heard it could on auto trans.i took the shifter out today and can move the gears with a screwdriver but no luck as to getting it out of gear.i may be crazy but it feels like it goes into other gears except neutral and reverse.
