6.9 and 79 frame compatibility

Im currently looking at turning my 67 f100 on a 79 4x4 frame back into a daily driver with a 6.9. It currently has a mild 460/c6/205. I have seen quite a few threads with conversions but im more curious about the little things that are often barely mentioned lik clearance of things such as oil pan, accessories on front and maybe steering box/pump and brake booster. Also other things like steering line compatibility, engine mounting, and body modification to fit engine. Im basically wondering if im better off jus buying a newer 6.9/7.3 truck to drive or building this one. Truck has alot of sentimental value and was my dd for a long time and id love to make it my dd again. Any thoughts?

welcome to FTE.
if you have a 460 in there, a 6.9 will fit in there too.
the 6.9/7.3 is about the same size as the 460.

Measure your 67's length (center of center cap frt to center of center cap rear) and measure your 79's length the same way, that'll tell you how close or far the frame similarities/differences will be pretty quickly and if you're going to have to cut the 79 frame to shorten it.
You'll probably have to fab up some body mounts for your 67 body to bolt-on.
But if you bolt the 67 body over the 79 truck you shouldn't have to worry about much besides body clearance which is fairly straight forward,
But it sounds like a great project!

The 67 is on the 79 frame already. Was my dd for a long time but now im commuting 50 miles a day and the 460 it has in it just isnt going to cut it, plus I been wanting a diesel for a long time. My plan was to take out the 460 and trans/tcase and buy a 6.9 and a 5spd and make the truck way better on mileage. Plus being a shortbed stepside I think a mild 6.9 would move the truck very well. Jus dont have a 6.9 at the moment to look at and see how difficult mounts/clearances are goin to make the swap..

Zombie, the 67 body is already on the 79 frame. all he wants to go is dump the gas motor for an oil burner.

What frame are you using F150 or 250 ? Body or suspension lift ?
You'll have clearance issues between the oil flter and pumpkin, do a remote filter or suspension lift.
The frame rail will require a small notch by the starter.
I used the transmission to locate the motor (front to back) which left me enough room at the firewall and just enough for a fan and shroud up front.
It's been over 10 yrs. since I did mine so I might be forgetting some small things.
You cannot compare the 6.9 to a 460, the 6.9 is bigger and alot heavier.

The mounts are relatively easy to make up providing you can fabricate/weld.
Mpg around town/local 14-16, highway 18-20, Your results may vary.

Im sitting on 4" suspension/3" body lift right now but if I go diesel axles/front susp will be swapped. Looks very tight in there. I will be running electric fans but have the desert cooling radiator in my truck and im worried how much room id actually have.

Id love to post pics but im unsure how to do it from my phone..

Not all have to notch by the starter, i didnt have to. Its damn tight, but you can wiggle out if you hold your tongue just right
