Help... Lug nut stud replacement

I have a 52 F1 with a broken front left lug stud. The stud broke almost flush with the hub. The stud appears to be threaded in the hub vs standard press in?? The replacement lug stud is a press in. I've done searches with no luck..., I looked in the Ford shop manual.... so my question in this post.

If the lug stud is threaded... what's the "trick" to get it out? Vice Grip from the back side of the hub?

Thanks Mark

I can't speak specifically about whether it is pressed or threaded but if you can get the hub off, use some heat and vice grips to work it out. I have also welded a bolt on the backside of studs before and been able to work them out that way. The heat from welder also helps loosen things. If that isn't successful, you may have to drill and tap the broken stud.

Unless you have an aftermarket hub, all of the '48 through '56 f-1 and f-100 lug studs are the same. (#8A-1107-A) They are all pressed in.

I missed your 1st 14 posts on FTE.

But let me welcome you to the best there is!

I see your truck in your avatar. Would you post some more pics in a thread so we picture lovers don't have to go searching in your Gallery or Album?

You're going to like it here. I want to know more about your truck. Do you have a build thread running?

Joe... I will be starting a build thread soon. I have ton's of pictures of the entire process. I'm pretty far along, but will document everything. I do have my own web site with some build status... you're welcome to check it out if you wish. the link is Classic RestoMods - 52 Ford F1 Pickup

thanks Mark

Well Mark, I now see you have been on FTE for almost 2 years, so my "welcome" is a little late.

I did enjoy the pics on your site. That is an amazing amount of work on the truck. You have skills far beyond mine.

I just replaced all the studs on my 51 f1 a few months ago. just get a hammer with a ball point tipped chisel and pound away. should come out fairly easy. if not, do as the others said and heat it up VERY LITTLE, and continue pounding.

good luck.
