First, find the idiot that cross threaded the lug and beat him silly. Then I suppose you might have to pull the hub even to press the stud out. Depends how tight they're installed.

It's pretty simple to replace the one stud. Just use a press tool with the hub still on the truck.

Just take a hammer and knock it out, you can pull the new one in by tightening the lug with an impact wrench. I usually just put the lug back on flush with the stud and smack it with a hammer and push it out.

Ditto on the hammer, unless it's major stuck. I don't have a press so I have taken a little torch to warm them up and then smack with hammer.

I haven't had to do it on a SD though. When pulling it back in don't have the rim on when doing this, find an oversized nut or get a socket or piece of steel pipe to use as you run the lug nut down to pull the stud to get seated.

On my 01, the torque spec is pretty high on the lug nuts. I usually use a breaker bar to loosen them when rotating wheels and tires. If I remember right it is something like 150 ft/lbs. Don't take that as fact and check your owners manual.

Those of us with on board air use impact wrenches and air jacks. Ever try to jack up a 10,000 lb. truck with the factory p.o.s. jack, especially in july in the south? Right after I did I installed an air system. I used to carry a old fashioned four way though, that helps with the impact tightened lugs.
