All, happy Tuesday to you!
Looking for pins/bushings to replace my 78 F250 door hinges.
Seems crazy to spend 30-40 bucks on custom kits and doorman etc seem to be non existent.
Anyone have a part number for some that will work? I have read some things about using GM kits but cant find a part number etc...
I have used search but not much on part numbers etc.
Thanks in advance,
Xcal
Door hinges: you could look at the hinges on the driver side compare them to the passenger side. You will see that there is only two hinges and they are upside down on one side of the truck, ford only made 2 hinges for the 4 locations, so take the hinge you need from the opposite side off a truck in the wrecking yard as the passenger sides get used way less.
So lower driver side hinge matches upper passenger side, they are the same part.
And upper driver side hinge matches lower passenger side, they are the same part.
Do you see the blue line with User CP, Albums, FAQ? See the search on that line?
It has a drop down search menu arrow, go to the "Advanced Search" option, type in there say "blab la bla" and then go to the lower right column and high light 73-79 forum. Select it and then you will have a detailed search just in the 73-79 forums.
I have seen a few threads about this and some folks have used an alternate part with luck. Sorry do not remember what they used or I would post it.
And always before you loosen a hinge on the cab or door use a scribe or sharpie and mark its position around the hinge, that will help with realignment.
Most of the local parts stores here in Central Vermont carry a companies line of products called "Help". Little blister packs of this and that, door handles, door hinge pin & bushing kits, etc, etc. As Chevrolet door pins & bushings have been very common to make the door sag and shut hard (even eventually breaking out the door post latch area after slamming shut a few zillion times ), I have accumulated a little batch of various bronze/copper bushing and a few pins over the years in my body shop.As the pins & bushings were worn on my '76 2wd ,I pawed around through the drawer and found bushings that worked perfectly.I realize the 1st question is "do you have a part number"? I don't, but this "HELP" line might have the actual application for a Ford. I wish I knew WHICH g.m. bushings I used but they were picked out of a bunch. Good luck!
Another quickie thought as I think back.... I think only bushings would work in my application but I had 1 pin worn a lot also. I built up the worn portion on the pin with a quick braze with the torches, hand filed to the general round shape, chucked the pin in my drill press and finished filing/sanding a nice rebuilt pin. Poor mans lathe.Nice tight hinges now and not a big deal to repair if you think a bit out of the box.Gary
Fastenal has them they are a GM bushing, I measured my pin and bushing OD and bought a box of them part number 14553 Au-ve-co brand application is GM 1968 and on thay have the serrations on the outside, I know not the best but after buying the Ford ones that were wrong I got whatever fit.
Paid 15$ a box of 25

Reason: correction
One thing I should mention and you may already know, after bushing replacement adjust door so that it is a little high at the striker end, after about a week the bushings will break in and the door will drop at the back about 3/16-1/4 then it will keep it's adjustment.
