Im about to reinstall my tailgate 1968 styleside bed and noticed there is about 1/8 of play between the tailgate and the hinges. Is there a bushing that slips in the tail gate to tighten this up? a newer tail gate have something that might work? I seen LMC sells a polyurthane hinge
Yea there's bumpers. But I think he meant actual bushings for the bottom hinges.
Ah... yes, IIRC they are metal on metal. I think there was some company that makes polyurethane cupped inserts for them. Alternatively, try using ultra high molecular weight (UHMW) polyethylene... it's used as drawer slides on newer wood furniture.
My quick fix for my ex father in law's 70 tailgate, I made some from a plastic milk jug.
I cut two pieces about a 1/2" wide & 7" long or so an wound it around hinge plug with some tape to hold it from flipping off while installing it 10 yrs ago still holding up.
We have our "Silencer" bits and kits at Wild Horses (https://www.wildhorses4x4.com/catego...yword=silencer) but I'm not sure if the bolt spacing is the same as on a pickup.
However, since NumberDummy said they were the same, my simple guess is that these interchange.
We can verify the bolt spacing (I have a set on my work bench (but buried of course!) I could measure. Just to be sure...
I think the other Bronco vendors still have theirs as well, if shipping becomes an issue. Luckily they're small and light weight.
