Tailgate hinge bushing?

I was taking apart the bed of my 53 f-100 and when I took the tailgate off. some rusted up bushings came off with the hinges. They appear that they are a bushing that was tack welded to the tail gate. Can the bushings be bought anywhere?. I tried looking through mid fifties catalog, LMC and the obsolete classic auto parts catalog, but I can't find an references to them anywhere.
Are these things available and I'm just looking for the wrong named thing?
If you made your own, what did you make it out of?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Nick

As you can see, there were no bushings as original. The hinges were worn, so someone fabbed up some bushings. The problem goes away by replacing the hinges.

1948/79 Flareside tailgates use the same hinges (8C-8343018) which are the same right/left...and repro'd.

No bushing but that area of the tailgate has multiple layers of metal that were tacked at the time of manufacture. Sounds like some of the structure of the tailgate has just rusted away. I would find a piece of steel tubing with the ID that matches the hinge and the OD that will fit into the tailgate...weld this in place and you should be good to go.

Ok I guess it's not an actual bushing, but there's definitely a piece of tube welded into the gate. I have two gates and they are the exact same way. The tack welds broke and the piece of tubing came out with the hinge. I'll look around and see what kind of tubing I can find that fits.

I have the same problem. Sloppy fit for new hinge mounts. What size tubing did you use, to act as bushings?
