I don't know anyone who has had good luck with airdog or fass, it's simply not worth my time to use a cheap fuel system for the most important part of the truck. Not to mention how obnoxiously loud the fass pumps are.
Well, can't say that you haven't heard from someone that has had luck with them now. I've had great luck (otherwise I wouldn't have recommended it).
I don't know how big or what makes up your sampling pool. Depending on the sampling pool that people use for the 6.0s, they would probably avoid the truck (I loved mine, hated to see her go, but wanted something newer and running two vehicles was too much). I've known plenty that didn't have much luck with them, typically those that didn't have much knowledge about that. But if you didn't know that about the person and all that they had was bad luck. I would probably have avoided the 6.0 as well, if I was just hearing about it.
I will say that it was loud, however, after so long of blasting Dio, Quiet Riot, Scorpions and many other bands, the loudness didn't bother me after a time.
In fact, if I actually have a complaint of the new truck is that it's too quite. Alicia said that I need to make sure to have a full tank of diesel when she needs it, because she's afraid about not remembering what fuel due to how quiet it is.
Well like i said, i know/have read about enough people who have had bad luck with either brand (theyre made by the same company i believe) to never install one in my truck or recommend one to someone. I personally know many people who can't keep one of those pumps in their trucks for more than a few weeks at a time. Do they get warrantied? yes..are they sick of replacing them? Definitely.
I use powerstroke army much more lately just because there are more interesting things to read about diesels there and i dont think anyone still uses airdog/fass...

Where they all installed at the same place originally and with the warranty ones? I would have to look into installation as well. It's possible to get one or maybe even two go bad, especially if they are sitting around, but if it's more then that and they aren't lasting more then a few weeks, I would look into installation.
How many people on here have talked about head gasket failures due to improper installation of even head studs?
Its people that have installed them themselves and know what they're doing, and its not 1 or 2, its like 4 or 5+. Simply not worth it, they are good at advertising their product but thats about it, many other good pump brands out there if you really want something aftermarket. We just installed a 6.4 pump in front of the stock 6.0 pump on my good friends truck and it works great. Quiet, filters are easily available and you have the reliability of a stock ford pump. Not to mention it functions perfectly, no fuel pressure issues with that pump. Ive also seen a few guys run parallel 6.0 pumps as well, or replace the 6.0 pump with a 6.7 pump.

I've known a few guys that do all of their own work and aren't all that great.
I know there are some things that I wouldn't do, just because I don't know and I know some that think that they know, but really don't.
I'm not saying that your guys are like that, I just don't know anything about them other then what you say.

It is very very possible in the 7 yrs that I have had mine, the quality has gone down from when I got mine. That happens all the time, particularly when companies were trying to maintain profits while having to deal with rising costs. Quality typically suffers in most instances.
I'm just trying to figure out why your (or your buddies) experiences are so radically different from mine. I still had the same one I put in 7 yrs ago when I traded it in a couple of weeks ago. I could have just been lucky though. You mention that you read posts on here saying how bad that they are, when I was looking at these pumps, AirDog and FASS where the golden boys of a/m fuel pumps. But, of course, when the 6.0 first came out, Edge was the golden boy for tuning if I recall correctly. Information does change.
Im sure they were great when they first came out, 7 years ago the diesel industry wasn't as big as it was today. Seriously, there is no one that will recommend an airdog/fass for any type of build.
I also don't see how installation error could mess up a fuel pump, it seems pretty straightforward to install. ARP studs on the other hand is a completely different topic on how to mess things up

Depends. I've seen some people not clamp the old return line. Fuel starts to splash in there, creating a syphon effect, pretty soon you are leaking some fuel. I would call that installation error.
I've seen some people forget the fuse for the pump underneath the truck, to keep a short from really having a bad time. Not just the fuse, but the plug for the fuse as well.
Using too short of a pickup line in the tank is another one as well.
Sometimes installation error is just forgetfulness of doing something, not a reflection on how complicated the install is. It can really be the simple things.

Interesting.
This is a post that I saw just today for a 6.7 mod:
