BackFire! want it gone

ts the 292. In a 64 f100 it has a new carb and new intake and has always backfired when letting off thegas at high RPMs or going down a hill... i am assuming the timeing is off but i dont know where to start in fixing the problem.
I am not a well knowledged mechanic so if its something thatt is complicated please tell me not to touch anyth

Is it backfiring up through the intake? Or are you shooting flames out the exhaust?

If the engine is running a bit lean it'll do it. Try richening up the idle mix just a bit and see what it does.

Post a picture of the spark plugs. Those will tell the tale.

Reset your timing using a vacuum gauge, this eliminates slipped damper and other issues as a source of error in setting initial timing. Then use the gauge to set idle mixture.

In my experiences with backfiring ,9 times out of 10 there's a spark/ignition problem, have you checked the points & condenser?

Assuming the truck is stock, it is called a resistor wire. Check to make sure it is installed. It comes from the ignition switch - to a butt connector which then becomes the wire going to the coil.It should be pink in color and it will say resistor on it. Available at Napa auto parts, approx $24.00. Also available at NAPA Auto Parts is the correct coil for your truck, approx $50.00. Check and adjust the points. Install the above items as required. Once installed, it is also a good idea to check the mixture on the carb but a backfire in the exhaust is typical caused by a build up of un-burnt fuel / fuel vapor building up and then igniting in the exhaust when spark does return. The same thing happens if you were to drive down a hill, shut the ignition off for a little while and pump the gas, then turn the key back on. When the motor re-starts...BOOM!. We did it for laughs when we were stupid kids and usually blew the mufflers off dads car...good luck.
