Napa filter cover

Sorry for not searching but I'm on my phone with no wifi. I just drained my oil and pulled the filter. I bought a motor craft filter but just discovered I have a Napa cover with an extended filter. Can I use the short OE filter with the Napa cover?

Thanks

Negative, do not mix and match.

A Napa filter with the Napa cap would be leaps and bounds better than a filter/cap that don't even come close to fitting. Get an OEM cap asap, but run the closest to actually fitting combination that you can in the mean time.

If you can't find an OEM cap right away, I'd just put the old filter back in until the correct cap was purchased.

A short filter in a tall cap is a problem combination.

The napa filter/cap is glued/bonded together anyways...just get a new ford cap or put the old napa setup in until you can get the right cap.

Thanks for the responses. I ended up picking up a Wix filter/cover combo. I was limited since it is Sunday and I really didn't want to reuse the old filter.

I hope you're just intending that as a stop gap...I'd get as correct size cap ASAP...I actually changed to a Sinister cap with the extra external filter...IMHO

This is my oil cooler screen after I let someone else do an oil change and they put in the Wix filter/cover...I'm guessing that some of that stuff is from the CCV filter.

Sorry...we're not all as fatalistic as it might sound. We just like to do our best to keep others from possibly repeating mistakes that others on FTE (me included) have made in the past.

What's a CCV filter and how does that end up on the HPOP screen?

Inside the driver's side valve cover there is a filter that the CCV line snaps into on my truck. The inside filter material looks and feels like steel wool. The filter material was coming out of the side of the filter. I found the material inside the rocker carrier, inside the oil filter housing, and since the wix filter assembly didn't seat all the way down I also found it inside the cooler sump area, and clogging the screen.

For the time being I've removed all of the filter material from the inside of the valve cover and I'm planning to check the oil filter again in about 100 miles. I'd like to get a CCV re-route mod done soon...time and money are holding me up at the moment.

Fortunately, it's not actually steel wool, because I didn't find any of it stuck to the magnet of the oil drain plug.
