wrong fuel filter?

I bought a NAPAGold 3518 fuel filter a while back for my early 99 7.3 and it looks like I might have the wrong part. The cap on the truck has a pre-screen that is part of the cap and the new filter has the same pre-screen built into the filter. My new filter won't fit inside the cap on the truck. Do I have the wrong filter or the wrong cap? Thanks in advance.

No. you probablly have a one piece filter in the truck now.In order for your 3518 filter to work you need napa part #730-5604.Its the black plastic screw on cover.it would bring it back to the original two piece design $10
