SCA additive and where to get it
Getting ready to change Anti-freeze and would like some input. Should I stay with green with sca additive or go to gold? Also where else besides Ford can I get the additive? I used to get it at Napa but don't have one near me now.
Have heard that the gold may leave more silica in engine than the green, and that Ford does not recommend the change out anymore. Thanks. Oh truck is '99 F350, 7.3 now has 125.000 miles on it.
Update found post https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...formation.html and being as mine is a pre 2-99 I have to stay with green. Also still was looking for sca additive and if I remember from back a few years everyone was going to a 195* thermostat and a different outlet, Any links or websites to where to buy? Also how about the filter kit for coolant? Web sites to buy?
Thanks,
Ron

I get the fleetguard equivalent additive DCA4 at a local international dealer. You can also get it online from Dieselmanor. I get 6 or more at a time and save 5%.
I have a 2000, and stay with the green. I have not found an advantage to going to the expensive coolant, as inevitably something will contaminate the coolant and I'll lose the investment (fuel in coolant was the most recent, prompting a change of the injector cups).
I'd also recommend adding the Dieselsite coolant filter.

I'm using the 'pink stuff' name eludes me at the moment. I was under the impression that you do not add the SCA to ELC coolant. I know that I used NAPA coolant filters with the SCA capsules inside and the ELC clogged the filters within a day. Switched to non SCA filters and problem solved.
My temp gauge probe is mounted on my external filter housing that's how I know when it's clogged. Chased my tail on that one....

Where have you seen this? I am only aware of the one ELC by CAT. They also have DEAC which is like normal coolant, and requires SCA.

Trey, Yes I was referring to the DEAC but could not remember the name.
I just checked the label on the DEAC and it does not mention EC-1. I initially asked for the extended life coolant at the CAT dealer and they gave me the DEAC. Just did not read close enough. Had to special order the ELC EC-1. Sorry for the confusion.
