My question is whether anyone has ever found water has a result of one of these monthly draining rituals. I've yet to find any, which makes me wonder if it is being separated. I can remember back in the 80's when I'd drain till the color changed then close the valve.
Moot point these days. I just change the fuel filters every couple months and drain DFCM at oil changes, but then I've been driving an average of 10-12K a month.
Why so many? The time of the yr or just overpopulating the area?
I believe so. There seems to be a lot more deer on road this time of the year.
That road is especially bad due to the amount of traffic and thus headlights coming at you, meaning you you can't use highbeams to spot them. I'd also contribute much of the blame to a lack of cleared area on the sides of the road.
I don't that I need to drain the thing, but this new 2014 drains more fuel out of the yellow **** than it does out of the drain port. Fuel flows out of both, one resulting in your bottle filling and the other resulting in diesel all down your arm, shirt, pants, and whatever you touch trying to get the F out of there.
I think either something is wrong with my fuel drain or Ford has gooned it up between my 2011 and this 2014.

Just use a larger bottle that has a opening wide enough to go under the drain port and the **** at the same time... also check the O-ring is seated in the correct place on the yellow drain plug, occasionally it slips when you are unscrewing it... of course you can't easily check that without fully removing the drain plug which results in fuel flow.
I use a mason jar. Opening is large enough to catch the **** and the drain. If I open it too far, it will leak out of the ****. I can control that. It has a steady stream out of the drain right before it leaks out of the ****.

Same on mine, I almost always get fuel on my hand first. My truck is so low to the ground it is a pain in the ****.
