Spe upgraded their caps. Everyone who had the old style could get the new ones for free, the old ones were cracking. I have the newer ones, look pretty beefy.
Well I dropped the truck off at the dealer today, didn't get to talk to the mechanic which was frustrating, but I should know Wednesday. Another part like I said was that the Senior Master Tech, which happens to be the only diesel guy as well told me that he was cool with modifications as long as I told him. I will call him on Wednesday and let him know what happened. From what I know happened, I think I tapped the top of the injector with the EGR Cooler which somehow "bent" the blue tab part or broke it. I tried to put more pressure on it to see if I could "stymy" the flow of fuel and didn't really notice a difference. Either way I am hoping that it's just one injector which is all I saw fuel leaking from. Just be VERY careful when removing the EGR that you don't touch the injectors. Once I get my truck back I will post a video of exactly what i'm talking about. The good part is that the truck threw no codes and still ran GREAT, but I noticed that my fuel gauge was going down a little too quick. I just have to wait and see.
Roughly 8 months. And now that I think about it I caught it before mine actually started leaking. Probably could have gone longer but they didn't look good.
Mine was in for literally 60 miles and I didn't even beat on the truck either. I don't know when in that course it blew, I just know after I made it 60 miles I checked it(I had already burped and topped the coolant off prior to this) and I could see it leaking out. The hose I bought, which I matched directly from the coolant tube I took off is 1" in outside diameter x 3/4 inside diameter. I am gonna once again tear my truck apart, drain the coolant install this, re-install, burp, repeat. Then I will feel GREAT about this. I also want to get all the coolant from the inside of my engine. Anybody pressure wash these engines yet? I will also post a picture o the part failure as well.
I pressure wash my engine two times a year, cold soak the engine first. I use Simple Green from a pump sprayer as a pre-treat.
Ok so got some more updates. When I pulled the EGR I hit the top of the injector and somehow "sheared" it off, which led to the leak. They would have tried to get it covered under warranty but there's no way physical damage can just happen. It will be around 890 plus a coolant flush and fill. Which will be close to 1000. Sucks but I am VERY relieved that it's just the injector. I am good guys, I appreciate the concerns and I can't wait to get back into the truck!
Is the top of the injector that flimsy, or is the EGR that stout? The reason I ask is because eventually, I will make the same mod (hopefully, minus a new injector). Sux about the extra money and time, but glad it will work out ok.
