40psi and quiet!

After ten thousand miles, six month trip with the 5er last summer, I came home with a burned up right ear, LOL Also had three exhaust leaks and the coolant was running too warm. I didn’t start a winter mod thread so I’ll give a summary. Sound proofed the whole cab, you might have seen that thread. Hopefully this will fix the burned up ear. Fixed my up pipe leak, sawzalled and porta powered the firewall back because the DP was rubbing. Pulled the exhaust manifold off the drivers side to fix that leak. The other exhaust leak was on the V clamp at the turbo, probably got pushed off a little by the DP rubbing on the firewall. Fixed my dipstick oil leak on the trans. Put in all new body mounts, sits higher now. Moved my 6.0 trans cooler from inbetween the radiator and ac condenser to behind the bumper. Hopefully this will fix my coolant running a little warm. Did a compression check, motor is OK. Going to put in a rear 38 gallon tank because the original was rusted and leaking, half done with that. Installed a AFE air cleaner because supposedly they are quieter because of the shield around the filter. On a quick test run I hit 40psi and it was quite, except still have some turbo whine.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->All this will be tested pulling the 5er on a 700 mile trip soon, will report findings! Here is a couple of pictures that I already posted in “advice please” thread I started. The problems I had listed in that thread last night was all because I didn’t plug in the switch on the brake pedal. That was my fault when I put in a new brake booster, LOL

Well that solved your boost and noise problem! I'd say you took care of the coolant and EGT problem too! That trip with the 5er will tell! Congrats buddy....Great job!!

Thanks Rich, Darin and Bill. It was weird about the speedo, I went around the block a few times and it just layed on 90mph. Then all of sudden it popped into action! The electronics were 'stuck', LOL

You sure you weren't doing 90 mph around the block?

Not on these streets. A lady once described it as a table of sand that the city planning commission threw a snake on. As the snake moved around on the table they started nameing the streets. I only know of one straight street in town, LOL I did see 90mph on the highway.

Great news!!!!!! Can't wait to hear how it pulls now.

You should have picked up a little power and quicker spool up now too.

I'll let you know next week how it pulls. Just leaving town on the highway, YES, I wasn't even getting after it and I could tell the spool was a lot quicker. In hot mode I got EGT's up to 1,300 but in heavy tow it didn't seem as bad. Pulling will tell for sure. I'm sure happy so far!!

Sounds like you EGTs are actually better than mine are now. In my drag tune I can see 1400*. With the methanol I can see almost 1600*. lol

It is amazing, when I had the front grill off pulling that 6.0 cooler out I put the old Travis boost leak thing on and had a few bubbles on the intercooler boots. I'm sure that getting them sealed up helped also.

Thanks pretty high, I don't know if it would go above 1,300° because I had to let off before I ran the guy ahead of me over, LOL I'll see towing.

Looks great Glenn! I like your air box set up. I'm assuming you like the sound proofing and such? I didn't check your thread to see if you posted your findings on if it helped or not.

What kind of batteries are those? I think I'm going to be battery shopping next spring. All I can do is look at mine and start mine at the moment. They have put enough salt down on the roads around here to melt Antarctica.

Hopefully your hard work has paid off and your wife will be satisfied with the sound deadening! Nice job Glenn!
