Your kick down rod has nothing to do with the up shifting of the transmission. If you can give me about 45 minutes I can take some pictures for you at lunch, but the kickdown rod is simply that, kicks the transmission down into "passing" gear
Like I said I know you can leave it off, and if you wanted to go into passing gear all you have to do is drop it in into 2nd.. Not really a big deal, if my truck didn't come with it I wouldn't worry about it nor would I spend the time looking for one
Thanks for the pics. Well i went vacuum hunting tonight and since i dont have a gauge yet i started at the vacuum tree on the firewall. The port going to the brake booster had good vacuum. the port that i hooked up going to the injection pump had vacuum that i could feel but not nearly as much as the brakes had. I disconnected the rubber line that i just replaced down to the hard line and could feel really no vacuum by hand. I took the hard line off and cleaned to, it seems fine. the small piece of line going to the modulator was clear and there was no fulid there either. So my question is what do i do next? Get ahold of a gauge? For some reason i just dont think i have nearly enough vacuum. I dont know if that means the pump is bad or what. Would adjusting the VRV on the injection pump make a difference? Im winding the motor out pretty far (atleast 2500rpm) if i floored it would it make a difference? Maybe it just needs adjusted big time?
I would really try to get a hold of a vacuum gauge, because it's going to be extremely difficult to diagnose without one. Adjusting the VRV valve is done and really small increments, & I mean really small you can try it and see what happens. Look at the picture I posted up and it should help as it helped me
I recently replaced the vrv on my c6. tried adjusting it all the way forward to all the way back, and everything in between. couldn't get it to change into 3rd. could not spot the difference between the old one and the new one but it now shifts beautifully. I left my kick down rod off it was bent and rubbing on all the things between the pump and the trans which didn't help shifts.
I dont know if that means the pump is bad or what.
Your pump is probably ok if your brakes and climate control work. But if you have a vac leak somewhere in your tranny vac lines, then your pump might have been working over kill and is probably on its way out anyway. They aren't that hard to replace so if yours is old, it might be good to replace regardless.
My bet is you have a vac leak in the lines to your tranny.
OK, got some results. I tested at the brake booster and got about 18-20 in vacuum. Also tested at a small line that wasent hooked to anything and got about the same reading (i plugged that line off by the way). So then i tested at the VRV and got about 18-20 again. So the i tested down at the start of the steel line going to the trans and got 0. So im getting vacuum to the VRV then nothing past it. Does this mean that the VRV is bad? Can they be cleaned?

I read somewhere on here I think you can pull it apart and clean.. but be careful lol
