I bought a truck about a year ago and im just getting it back on the road. I have new tranny fluid in the trans and i also hooked up the vacuum lines. I have the line on the injection pump closest to the front going to the vacuum tree on the fire wall. The rear port i have hooked up the the line going to the modulator. Does this mean i have a leak somewhere? Does the modulator need cleaned or replaced? The truck shifted by manually shifting the lever if this means anything. I am new to autos so this stuff is a bit confusing to me. Thanks for the help
Did you pull the vacuum line of the modulator to see if you have any vacuum? How do the power brakes feel? If you have vacuum at the brake booster try checking vacuum at the modulator.
Brakes feel pretty good but no I didn't pull the line off the modulator. Can you tell if it has vacuum without a gauge? Because I don't have a vacuum gauge.
Vacuum should be at least 25in... Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I am getting 28 inches the vacuum at the booster, I am getting around 17 to 18 inches of vacuum down at the modulator
Also on a side note, if you pull the vacuum line off of the modulator and fluid comes out. You need a new modulator

You can just by putting your finger over the line, but that's not going to give you an accurate reading. Depending on where you are I believe Kragen or Napa parts houses rent those tools
I second you have a vacuum problem. Do you have climate control? If your brakes have power assist, you have a semi- or fully-functional vac pump, but check your vacuum selector, or the vac line to the tranny.
Once you figure out the vacuum issues on these trucks, the shifting of these autos are pretty sweet. Took me a while to figure mine out but with a lot of help and reading on this forum my truck shifts the same or better than some of these newer trucks and yes I have a c6....
This image was also found here on the forum, may also help you once you figure out your vacuum leaks if you have any
Not quite sure what you mean by climate control, like a/c heat etc? I do have that but not sure if that's what you mean. Also I'm not sure about the brakes because I never really looked at them that close. I know there is some vacuum because with the brakes unplugged there as hard as a rock. Il try to check out the modulator tomorrow and check for oil
Subbing. I also feel ya have a lack of vacuum to the modulator.
A C6 is by far the strongest auto Ford built. They will take all
kinds of abuse. Low or no oil more than any other, burn outs,
drag racing, pulling stumps and the mother in law out of the yard.
Most anything ya want to throw at them. Just no overdrive.

Plop in a GVOD. I did. Never regretted it.

Do you have "vent," "Max AC," "Norm AC," "Defrost," and so on? Or does it just sit there on one setting? If you don't have climate control options, then you have a major vacuum issue, because your tranny isn't shifting and your vacuum selector on your climate control is not getting vac. Since you have power brake assist, it's looking like your vac pump is working.
Yes I have all the things you listed above and they all seem to work pretty good. I am going to check out my line about half way back to the modulator because the other pieces are new. I will look tomorrow and report back. Thanks for the help so far
If you have a vac line leak, you may want to look into getting a spare vac pump regardless (if your vac pump is old). I had a climate control leak, and I let it go, and I guess it put lots of wear on the pump.
when using a c6 behind a diesel u must use the vacuum control valve on the ip, it controls vacuum to the modulator when throttle is applied, Note, adjustable vac modulators for tranny are available to further tune tranny
I know I asked on my original post but does it matter which line from the injection pump is gone to the vacuum tree and which one goes to the tranny? I tried both and it didnt seem to matter.
Also after doing some research and going off of memory i dont think i even have a kickdown linkage on the truck so this could be causing some of my problems to. does anyone have any good pics of the kickdown? I have have to go junkyard hunting for this one.
