Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice from experience - thanks in advance for your help.
So, on my 66 F100 352 my temp gauge was not registering. So, after reading how on this forum (thanks!) I was able to troubleshoot that the gauge is fine, and the wiring is also. Tested both by running a jumper to ground. Gauge went all the way to high.
So I ordered a new temp switch from LMC. Received it today, installed it, then quickly realized that the pin on top is a smaller OD than the original?!
The boot fits over the pin real loose. So, my questions are:
1. Maybe I ordered the wrong one (it is PN 47-0807) -- I will call LMC to confirm. BTW my S/N is 832322. Gauge is advertised for 66-69 from S/N 751,000 and on.
2. Assuming its the right one, what shall I do?
Replace the boot? I'm not too keen on splicing that wire, whether it would work the same...
Can I pinch down the boot so it contacts the smaller pin?
3. Anyone else have a similar problem and if so, how did you fix it?
Thanks for your advice for this newb. Much appreciated!
Over past 45 plus years I have purchased numerous parts from Ford part suppliers and came to find I could have bought the replacement part thru local auto parts store; if not in stock usually can have it within 24 hrs.; if possible, take the item with me to match, or have the option to return. Tend to prefer Napa because they usually have better quality and selection than some of the others?? Anyhow, had an urge to chime in.
Just to bring this to closure; I installed the replacement switch (not sure why they refer to this as a switch? Sensor or sender seems more appropriate). Topped off my radiator and warmed her up. Gauge now working…
First task on my slick is complete. Get the dash working. Now have all dash lights working, swapped ammeter for voltmeter, and temp gauge working
Next steps:
- Clean carb and full tuneup
- Replace clutch

Thanks again for all the helpful advice
Just for future disc brakes, start now keeping your eyes open for a WHOLE donor truck,,, 74-79. Makes it much easier! I did it before AlGore invented the internet,,, many trips back to the yards! Then I bought a whole 74 for my other 66 and ended up moving and scrapped it,,,aarrrgghh!
