Advice on Temp Sensor

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice from experience - thanks in advance for your help.

So, on my 66 F100 352 my temp gauge was not registering. So, after reading how on this forum (thanks!) I was able to troubleshoot that the gauge is fine, and the wiring is also. Tested both by running a jumper to ground. Gauge went all the way to high.

So I ordered a new temp switch from LMC. Received it today, installed it, then quickly realized that the pin on top is a smaller OD than the original?!

The boot fits over the pin real loose. So, my questions are:

1. Maybe I ordered the wrong one (it is PN 47-0807) -- I will call LMC to confirm. BTW my S/N is 832322. Gauge is advertised for 66-69 from S/N 751,000 and on.
2. Assuming its the right one, what shall I do?
Replace the boot? I'm not too keen on splicing that wire, whether it would work the same...
Can I pinch down the boot so it contacts the smaller pin?
3. Anyone else have a similar problem and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks for your advice for this newb. Much appreciated!

X2 on the smoosh. Put some dielectric grease in there too

There are two common sizes of studs, each with their own appropriately sized connector. Personally I would prefer just to have the right part in the first place; mashing an oversized connector until it fits isn't guaranteed to hold up over time (no point in putting dielectric grease in something that mashes out sideways and creates more open space anyways).

I say get the appropriate sending unit. Or, cut the wire boot off and install an eye terminal and nut.

Are the sizes of the studs denoted by part number?

For future reference I would recommend shopping your local Napa (or favorite parts house) for the small consumables...

The price is often competitive, usually cheaper sans the shipping cost, and you don't have to wait 3-4 days for the part!

(and if it is the incorrect part it's just a quick trip back to the store)
