Title pretty much says it all. Got a 99 E350 V10 powered extended length 2wd van that I want to make 4x4. I know I gotta change the rear end out to a newer ford truck rear end so I can keep the rims the same bolt pattern all the way around. I just wanna know what all it will take. I know I need the front axle and suspension and the T-case off of a F350. Am I missing anything?
If this turns into an actual project please post some photos of your progress---I'm sure many of us here would enjoy going along for the ride with you!
If I am not mistaken, the 99 has the 8x170 bolt pattern, so you could use a 99+ Super Duty Dana 60. Pretty easy to find and reasonable as well.
As Mark said, you will need to change the transmission or shaft out for the 4x4 version. Plus need to find a transfer case. Probably the Borg Warner 1356.
The pre dana 60s use the 8x6.5 pattern too lol. Ford changed the F series truck pattern around 95 or 97. The F series uses the 8x170 bolt pattern. I'd have to get a pre 95 front end or a post 95 rear lol.
There are adapters available to switch from the newer f series bolt pattern to the van pattern. Also the track witghs are different.C ontact Ujoint offroad for conversion. There is much more to this than meets the eye. my 2002 Quigley uses a dana 60 front axle from a mid 70's GMC 30 series. It gets away from the high pinion Ford dif and gets more frame clearance. Also, the gas tank needs to be shortened for the transfer case,It may be quite a bit cheaper/easier to get a used van; check E-Bay Ford van 4wd. There are usually a few for sale.
