EGT's is primary as this tuner may disable the safeties built into the programming by ford.
Coolant and oil temps and trans temps.
So is there a different type of tuner that I wouldn't have to worry about those things?
Or is that a issue regardless of the tuner?
Ive run a Edge in my 02 for 7 years or so without gauges, but I don't push it that hard either.
The check engine light comes on if I ask to much of it and I back off.
regardless, you will need a monitor. Scanguage II or edge or dash DQ I think it is called.
Only one that I know that comes with a monitoring is the banks 6 gun that I used on mine. That is a DPF on tuner though. I used their IQ to monitor and change settings.

Sorry your losing me...................
Are you saying I should get a different tuner that monitors things or are you saying no matter what kind of tuner I get I will also need gauges?
Heres an example of a screen on the spartan dasdaq.
And that's up and showing all that all the time?
I don't see a thing on there I really care about except maybe the EGT's?
What else on that screen is important?
You can change screens, I prefer this one and have it on all the time. There are the 3 egt snesors (the two showing 246 are just default as dpf is gone) Engine oil temp, coolant temp (very important).Turbo/boost pressure, back pressure, Trans temp, fuel rail pressure, torque conv' slip. Then pulse width, intake air temp x2 etc. You can change the parameters as well. Ive got it slightly different now then what shows in that pic.
If you want gauges built in ask your guy if he can get you a H&S Mini Max and delete pipe. That would be the simplest best bet. This is just my opinion but I'm just trying to keep it as simple as possible since your new at this stuff.
Once you get the mini max and delete pipe just keep it on stock power levels and you shouldn't have any issues from that. Just my opinion. Good luck.

The guy is set on selling me the tuner I posted on here , is he trying to sell me something that's not going to do the job right?
He says its all I need and with a "mild tune" I don't need to worry about it?
I have to find out before Tuesday when its getting done.
I looked on Ebay and H+S tuners are $1600 , Im getting the whole job done for $1000 so why isn't he trying to get more money from me?

I personally think if you leave it on stock power levels and just use the tuner for the delete you will be fine. I had my cummins deleted with no gauges on stock power and never had any issues at all, mpg went up nicely as well. However you will be towing much more weight than I did at a higher rpm. I'm not saying you will have issues without gauges, I don't have the experience with the truck you will be using at the weights and elevation changes to say for sure.
H&S Mini will monitor most everything, but only 4 at a time. I keep mine on EGT/oil/coolant/trans temps. You set the defuel levels you want on each item.
Has been fine for about 60000 miles.

Do you absolutely need the gauges? The answer is no. BUT I will say that with the gauges you can completely monitor your truck and ensure that it is running properly BEFORE something goes horribly wrong and ends up costing you a lot of $$$ to get fixed. To me, it was a very easy couple of extra hundred bucks to spend. I run the H&S MiniMax and absolutely love it! I can run a higher tune for better MPGs when going to my work site, throw the trailer on, then with a finger to the screen drop back to TOW mode and drive away. I have a 08 F350 and can average 17-17.5 MPGs highway 100-110kmph.
What your mechanic is trying to sell you isn't wrong, he probably just has a bunch of those in stock and is trying to push them. But, if I were to do it again, I'd definitely stay with the MiniMax. Without a doubt worth the extra cash. It would also allow you to run at a "street" (or "performance", although I've never been ballsie enough to push my truck to that tune yet) level while driving unloaded then change it on the fly (never have to even turn the truck off) to "tow" or "stock". That would yield you better MPGs while running unloaded vs running unloaded in the tow or stock mode.

Sounds better to me , maybe Ill check out the price difference?
The Mini Max monitors?
Also I personally know 3 people with 6.4's. 2 08's and one 2010. One of the 08's was recently deleted the other two are stock. None of them have had any issues with the motors, although the 2010 did smoke like a steam engine during regen when I was driving it on the interstate.
The mini max monitor's many things but you can only look at 4 at a time on the screen. You pick whichever 4 you want, it will also adjust the speedo for tire size, and you can set defuel level's for any many items. Say you don't want to watch EGT'S on your screen you can set the EGT defuel to come on at 1380 degree's and if it reach's that it will defuel the truck so it will not go over 1380 degree's. It will also read codes and has several transmission shift changes you can set.
